Unt has a series of musicians who come in play & talk to students in a lecture hall. Appropriately, it's called lecture series. These musicians generally plays with student rhythm section players at school chosen by the t.a. & the jazz dept head. The good times keep on a-rollin. The conference is now hoppin with lots of jazzdorks wandering about the Hilton & Sheraton in downtown Manhattan. It's pretty silly in a way. Yesterday, I spent most of the afternoon with a recent UNT alumni, Lily Maase. She plays the guitar and composes. While at UNT, she was most known probably for leading groups under her own name that played very distinctive, personal, even pretty cutting-edge music that never failed to find an audience.
