On April 29, 2006, we walked for miles through the hills of downtown San Diego to Balboa Park, where we slept for the night. I don't know how much I slept. I caught a few minutes of sleep every now & then... whenever I managed to close my eyes. But then a car would drive by, or a gust of cold wind would hit my face, & I'd be awake again.

The New Year is upon us, & yet it hasn't really sunk in for me. Maybe it's b/c my new years usually begin w/ each passing school year. I watched the ball drop & midnight roll by w/o taking notice that it was now January first, two-thousand SIX. & that at the turn of the century, a mere six years ago, we hadn't even graduated 8th grade yet.

I can't believe that I'm on break already, fall quarter went by so quickly. I keep thinking about how fast time is passing & I just want to tell life to stop so I can take a breather. It's weird b/c fall quarter last year seemed to last forever. I think it did. Maybe it's b/c I enjoyed it more this year.

I love Thanksgiving. Spending quality time with loved ones, putting up the Christmas tree, beginning the shopping for gifts, eating great food, & really getting the chance to reflect on how blessed we truly are. It's a wonderful holiday. The person I was last Thanksgiving had many things to be thankful for. But this year, I have so much more.

My father is difficult. He's rude, childish, and mean.

& he's not affectionate. That's probably the hardest part. I used to wonder if he really did love my mother. Halloween is coming up. I've been somewhat passive in my celebration of this occasion, but I've done my fair share of trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, & playing the parts of The Little Mermaid & Pocahontas. But this holiday intrigues me b/c it seems to merely be a more explicit representation of what we do in our everyday lives.
