I also watched the Ethan Hawke Hamlet of my own accord last year, when I was taking a Shakespeare course. I didn't think it was that bad. Certainly, not that good either, and I know I watched it in 3 parts because I didn't have the patience to sit through it all at once . . . not a good sign. I recall wanting to beat the tar out of Ethan Hawke several times. I don't remember Bill Murray getting the back of his head blown off, but knowing me, I probably anticipated that he was going to bite it soon and covered my eyes so I didn't see any of it.

I'm probably not a fair judge of film adaptations because I'm so finicky about what they cut from the script and how they portray what they do show. A lot of the artsier business sort of rubbed me the wrong way. I agree about Ethan Hawke, though; he made a very squeaky Hamlet and I couldn't really deal with how much he looked like Tom Cruise. I think I may have liked him better in "Gattaca." But Gattaca had Jude Law.
