Well, Mr. The Jerk, I'm glad you asked.

Graphics fall into to two main categories:

Vector graphics
Bitmap graphics

The difference between these two types is what they're made up of. Vector graphics are made up of lines and curves. Bitmap graphics are made up of pixels and are used on the internet in the form of .jpg, .gif, .bmp.

Vector graphics are much smoother than bitmap graphics. In fact, you can enlarge a vector graphic as much as you want without any pixelation.
