If you haven't read it yet, I heartily recommend The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Especially being a Classics major. It is awesome.

I'd also ask for handmade stuff, or accessories like scarves,hats, handwarmers or exciting socks. These things are cheap, but there's a lot of variety and room for surprise. You could also point her at http://sockdreams.com/ for this.

I'd probably make sure you had enough warm, adorable scarves/socks/and mittens. Especially the mittens, maybe with pins or hooks to attach them to your coat ;)
