Thinky Thoughts About Masquerade

I think the title may be a lie. Or maybe not. I do have thoughts but I've been struck by the inability to express them. And that's rare for me. Apparently when Smallville is good to Chloe, I lose the ability to think rationally about the show.

I think some reviews touched upon how I feel and expressed my feelings better than I will be able to so ( Read more... )

I think she does too. Or at least that's the message I got from that last scene. I worry about how they will follow through and wrap up her arc in only one episode but I hope it's done.

Nor was I. I don't think anybody was and to to be given that when expectations were so low was a nice surprise.

Quite often both Peterson and Souders say things without really meaning anything by them and their interviews in the past have left me shaking my head in confusion. It should be about Clark and Chloe. After all, wouldn't that make sense on a show about Clark? Wouldn't it make sense to explore his relationship with Chloe and where it stands now for his sake as well as hers?

i stick to what i said on twitter i hope that they leave her ending kinda open ended but hopeful of course. you know with the promise of a new life, where she finally will find her way back to herself, whatever that may mean, hanging in the air.

That would please me too. Chloe setting off with a new sense of determination to live her life the way she wants to while keeping close ties to Smallville and Metropolis.

I think considering how split even the Chloe fans are in what they want for her, it would be the best solution to leave it open ended. Of course some will complain about THAT too but at the end of it all not so much as they would if Chloe was given an end that they absolutely DIDN'T want.
I'm just curious because of the big last Chlollie moment at the end of Fortune, it kinda almost sounds like it will be pretty much Chloe's last scene for now, which I really hope it isn't. I want her last scene to be either just her OR with Clark, anything else and I will be at least slightly mad.

I want Reporter!Chloe back. It's when she was happiest, and I simply want her to be happy, no matter who she ends up with.

Agreed. It's all I've ever wanted for her.

I know why it is but I was always pretty okay with the fact that she wasn't reporting or at the Daily Planet which I think, makes me unique as someone that also believes in Chlois as the best outcome for Clark.

As long as the partnership was there between her and Clark I really didn't care where her employment was. So, what I want from the show, and what makes Chloe, Chloe 1.0, is her relationship with Clark. Yes, it's fantastic that she wants her first love back--journalism, but it would be outstanding if she and Clark were the match set that I so loved to see again.

I want that partnership back.

I am almost the opposite of this. I don't want Chloe to be defined by anyone. I want it to be shown that she is happy in herself and driven by a need to make her own mark in the world independent of anyone else. Masquerade showed me that Chloe wants the same thing. I was scared she would make decisions without the viewers ever gaining an insight in to her thought process. I was scared that what she had given up and how she had changed would never be acknowledged but I was happy to be proved wrong.

Reporting was never just about employment for Chloe IMO. To a large degree it defined her belief system and her desire to change the world by her passion for seeking and reporting the truth. Words were her currency, her choice of weapons and she had her own dreams and aspirations that were hers alone and not tied to anyone.

I don't want Chloe to be defined by anyone.

I think she'll break away from others defining her. But I think Chlark together they both contribute to the other's esteem equally. Sure, most of Chloe's life since HS has been determine with Clark in mind. Chloe 1.0, the journalist, was also best friends with Clark. And Chloe herself, especially in season 5 & after really helped and shaped Clark's esteem.

What I'm trying to say is that there was once mutual balance between the two, and Chloe's reflection on Masquerade spoke to me about the imbalance.

She will define herself, and I think that she'll always make room for Clark. The next Chloe Sullivan will probably be better.

Reporting was never just about employment for Chloe IMO.

I agree with this. It's about a process of investigation that she's never abandoned.

ETA: These are wonderful quotes and I wouldn't have taken the time to look for them. Thank you so much for sharing.
