i just spent the day waiting, calling, running around the neighborhood hoping to get cats. i got into the backyard of the abandoned house and saw the big grey cat, jueves. of course he bolted as soon as he saw me. the most discouraging thing of all is that the lot i saw them in last night is only accessible during the day til 4:30pm. a part of me

Could we help out by donating to help you rent some humane traps? That's the solution I've heard of when cats get spooked like that. What did your friend who works with ferals have to say?

Oh sweetheart, I'm sorry this is so hard.

My cat also used to leave--for the whole summer!--and always came back. I know you'd like to be with them, but maybe they need to get over the fire in their own ways.

i just posted on a pet forum to see if people had any tricks for trapping cats that are scared or traumatized and skittish. i will let you know if good stuff / suggestions comes out of it.

what treats / food did you have with you to lure them?

this was the first response i got re how to get them:

"The only thing I can think is to trap them. They have cages (about the size of a medium pet porter) then you put something in there that the cats love or as my vet said "the nastiest, rotten smelling cat food on the market" that is what cats like. With patience I bet he will have his cats caught very quickly. If he does not know where he can get a cat trap a lot of times, animal control in your area would loan you one or even do it themselves for you. "

Keep the faith honey, they miss and need you just as much as you need them. I heartily concur about the traps and trying to find the cat lover at the muffler shop to work with you. It's going to be ok.
