I don't know, guys. It feels like this is all hanging together by dental floss and scotch tape. Even Rep. Paul Kanjorski doesn't sound very hopeful, does he?

In my very humble opinion The Daily Kos is written by political hacks and morons. I don't believe anything they say or link to. Still, yeah, things are bad over here. *sigh*

Oh I know and I agree... but Paul Kanjorski isn't a hack writer for the Kos, unfortunately.

Awesome, stay right where you are. Rob, Isabel and I will be there directly, and I'll bring my supply of canned food and vodka.

Y'know, I wonder what would happen if the economy did collapse? Do you think we'd be able to build a new, better system after suffering, or would we just make the same messed-up system we've got now with just slight rewording?

The USSR is still happening. That is, they're still developing, though they seem to be developing on very dog-eat-dog lines.

I think it would be horrific beyond our ability to even imagine. I think we would have widespread starvation and rampant violent crime and a full-scale horror show. I don't think most of us would survive to see a new system built from the ashes (better or not), but my insightful friend lucretiasheart believes there would be hope after a period of great hardship:

Personally, I'm not convinced. This country is like a big spoiled brat that's been used to getting whatever it wants whenever it wants for as long as it can remember. Take the candy away from a spoiled-brat kid and you're going to get a tantrum. Take the candy away from a heavily-armed spoiled-brat nation and you're going to see horrors.

But as with everything I write about the economy these days, I hope like hell I'm wrong. Never in my life have I ever so desperately wanted to be wrong.

Being on the brink is not unknown in our country. The main reason that FDR and Congress pushed through the New Deal was not out of the kindness of their hearts and noblesse oblige for the common man--but because they were facing an imminent and armed insurrection (and not just from the wealthy ( ... )

I agree with all of that; you put it all so well, too.

I think I just need to stop reading articles about the economy altogether, because with my daughter's recent diagnosis and everything that might entail, it's entirely too easy to feel like the world is ending.
