So, this Gmail phenomenon seems to be sweeping the East community, and I must admit to being curious. The only problem is that you need a Gmail invite to get a Gmail account, and, as far as I can tell, nobody actually knows from whence these invites actually come ( Read more... )

Apparently at random, existing users get the chance to invite new ones. I don't have any right now, but you might try http://www.gmailswap.com .

Thank you. I am overjoyed to join the mindless droves of techies and geeks that now have more space for email than their pitiable social lives could ever support.

Unfortunately, your previous roomate and your future suitemate overendulged in substances of varying legality last night, and as such I am too tired to set up my gmail account right now. I'll do it tomorrow.

Again, thanks muchly for the account. Though I am somewhat harrowed by all the articles about the privacy concerns that accompany a program that reads through your email and matches ads to the content. It is also sort of disconcerting that I can't permenantly delete emails that I get to the account. However, such is the price we pay for that beautiful beautiful gigabyte of space.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can permanently delete emails. First, send it to the trash, then choose the "Delete forever" option. That oughta do it. =o]

Resist the urge to conform! I submit myself as proof that it can be done. See: I've avoided getting a Gmail account, LiveJournal, ...

Oh wait, scratch that last one. Guess I'm being assimilated.
