Some time ago, it became clear to me that there are a shocking number of people on this island who lack the ability to read and write properly. Ignoring for a moment the fact that the native language of this place is English anyway, this is nevertheless indicative of a broader lack of culturedness plaguing the community ( Read more... )

Though I do not necessarily object to the idea, wouldn't this be more fitting endeavor for the language department than the history department?

Speaking as the entire body of the Social Studies department, and considering that our language department only teaches one language, I think I'm perfectly suited to this particular endeavor.

Why, that's an excellent idea! Interestingly enough, many of the islanders who hail from Earth seem to be from either the United States or Japan.

Yes... I don't know exactly where in America, unfortunately. Given the wide variety of Japanese on the island, my attendance at these classes of yours is practically required. Sign me up at once, my good man!

That sounds like a wonderful idea. It never hurts for a person to know another language. Are you just going to focus on Japanese or will you rotate?

Well I'm sure you will do a fantastic job as a Japanese teacher. Perhaps one of the other teachers could also teach their own class? As an educator, you must be jumping at the chance to learn a new language.
