Juror #10

I have a new name this week: Juror #10. I was selected for jury duty this morning for a criminal trial that started today. Truly, I can't say anything about the trial itself, but the juror selection process was not unlike a John Grisham novel. Names are put in a drum and selected at random. I think its all so very exciting.. but I have a question.. do they need jurors for every trial or only big ones? Cause it would be crazy if they needed them for all trials, thats alot of people they would need.. And you must feel special to be picked.. even if its boring.

"Jury trials are much more infrequent than in the US and usually reserved for serious criminal cases. Judges have the right to deny a request for a jury trial if they feel that the issues are too complex or require too much time to examine."

Before the selection began, they told us that it was entirely possible that both cases being tried may not need juries at all; instead they might be tried simply by judge. I guess it's up to the lawyers.

I do feel special, I suppose, and it became a bit less boring today as they moved on from the 50-or-so photos entered as exhibits.
