All this stuff is so true; Ziva is definitely one of my favourite characters. Probably one of the strongest and most unusual female characters on mainstream television today.
And what I've really really loved, is that the script-writers on NCIS haven't sought to ever compromise that strength, or water it down. If anything, they've shown that while at times it can be a real let-down, most of the time it is a huge asset to the team.
I can't wait to learn more about her this season. It seems that every new clue they give us about Ziva's personality raises more questions; than it gives answers. And I love that a character after three years of being on a show, is still this complex and appealing.
It's interesting, a lot of the points you made I was just talking about with my mum last night. I always found that this particular character was in a class of her own, which is appealing to a lot viewers becuase it is very easy for shows to fall into a trap of pidgeon-holing or "stereotyping" females characters. I know that when Ziva first arrived, the show runners wanted her to be a sort of "anti-Kate" so the idea of Kate being replaced or forgotton wan't so hard to swallow (I still think they should make more of a reference to previous characters, Morrow include, just to reiterate that these were seperate storylines that helped make the foundation of a great show...but I digress)and Cote came into her own admirably.
Heh, How women are portrayed in currrent entartainment is always a hot-button conversation in our house, I wish I had read this last night to help out my aurgument (AKA-Why everyone should watch NCIS, not just for the eye-candy). Thanks for your thoughts! :)
thanks for the comments! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I do agree that Ziva is unlike other women characters on TV, and that is one of the reasons I love the character.
Sorry for commenting here but you have enabled your privacy option for lj messages so I couldn't send you the beta version of your text for the ncis_germany advent calendar
