I am Up North with smallclanger, who is having some quality time with his grandparents. His ambition seems to be to go through the shelf of games in the back room and try out each one once, and so far we've played Ratrace, Mhing and In One Word in addition to Game of Life which he's seen before, Fluxx which by now is an old favourite, and EscapeRead more... )

Footnote: Board Game Geek seems to have been down for maintenance all evening, otherwise that would have been a decent source of links for the above games.

no idea on what you need size wise but me and gaspodex have both run corsas pretty much into the ground - my definition oif ground differing :-)

His has over 120k on the clock and mine had a whack. Mine only ever needed new brakes, his had some tinkering towards the end but not much.

Oh - and new cars tend to come with a years insurance if you push a bit ... shame you couldn't have beaten the VAT increase though most dealers are heavily discounting - go for new or 'nearly new' which tends to be demo mileage...

I would suspect that a significantly newer car might be a good idea, given how much work has had to be done on that one, and that 'broadly similar' to either that or the Saxo has advantages. I have nothing much to do this week if you want me to start looking for candidates within reasonable distance...

I think that could be useful if you are at a loose end - thanks.

One year old cars are generally thought to be best value for money, if you have the cash, so far as I remember.

I would go Japanese whatever else you do. The Honda Jazz is almost as efficient as a Prius, and Honda in general are excellent. Nissans seem to go for ever and ever without breaking down.

Second the recommendation re Nissans. Mine was on the drive from 15 Dec to yesterday and started up without a qualm, has never needed more than bare-minimal maintaining, repairs easily, drives well, and has mad good fuel economy. Did I mention it's at least 18 years old, as well?
