Still can't decide

An informant sez: "you could get a brand new petrol car for the price of that Corsa."

Which appears to be more or less true. Some more links:

Going to sit in a couple of them will help. You may feel cramped in the Micra after driving the Xsara and Astra, but it's not much different space-wise from the Saxo. Or the Fiesta here.

You've previously ruled out brand-new for fairly good reasons. *shrug*

None of these is totally brand new; they all seem to pass the "one year old gives the best value" test. But, see post title.

Is it the photo angle or do Corsas have no boot worth mentioning?

As I said below - Corsa boot isn't bad. Certainly go for the 1.2 over the 1.0 though. We tried both before we brought R's ... We got your TV in the back of ours too ...

Depends on what makes you feel cramped, really: for me, it's huge front columns and being in a coffin-shaped seat, as in the Mondeo I drove as a rental car for a few days. I'm not at all large in the hips but it was designed to feel like a cockpit, you should excuse the expression. It was a big and quite fast, heavy car, and I had no trouble driving it but it wasn't a pleasure. It was a tank.

Driving a low-litreage car is, in my view, great fun, because you get more out of strategising. You can out-drive many bigger cars. You can get very good mpgs out of them as well as lower carbon emissions than the larger engined cars.

I don't know the Pixo at all. If you drive it as a test, post the review?

Diesel isnt the advantage it used to be - most new small cars do exactly the same milage as diesel - This is certainly true of the corsa, the yaris and fiat 500, theres no difference in mileage between diesel or unleaded according to the specs and diesel is more expensive as well. I also wouldnt go bigger than a corsa - and as I think you know have infact down sized to a Fiat 500. Which I love muchly - especially the unexpectedly high driving position. BTW - the corsa's Boot is pretty good - I seem to remember we got a 46 Inch LCD in the back of ours.

Corsa - test drive is always the way to go - but I'd go for the 1.2 over the 1.0 as the car is heavy and needs that .2 (i've driven both - its quiet noticable). That's also why i'd be wary of the Pixo ...

I've had both a Clio and a Corsa and I couldn't say there was much in it. Corsa won slightly for better boot space, which was important at the time as I was in a quite luggage heavy job.

(And the obligatory gaspodex fitting a tv in the back of it.)
