If you rip at 128.. you fail. Stop.

Being a musician, the whole mp3 thing bothers me (production wise) in the first place-but I do understand its uses and am supportive of using them/trading them etc...

People spend tons of money and years of their lives to record these songs and here we go compressing them which sometimes removes entire parts of the recording. Its great for checkin a band out and getting your name out etc..., but nothing compares to the real original quality recording.

If the 128 Kbps is actually encoded at the highest quality and Joint Stereo, the difference isn't big. But most people rip Stereo instead of Joint Stereo, and they don't rip at the highest quality because, to be honest, it takes a long time. Most 128 Kbps rips I've heard, yeah. They sound pretty awful, and as someone who downloads 50 CDs a month I feel your pain.
