I love the opening sentence -- it pulled me right in and sets the stage for the end. I really enjoyed this!

I did not see that piece of heartbreak coming at the end, though it fit right in with the rest of the story. What a terrible, ridiculous way for anyone to die, or to cause someone else's death.

You’re afraid of being alone, right? The present just drives you batty, what, with all it’s potential and promise. Let’s just stare at Facebook a little bit longer. Maybe then you’ll discover your true purpose.
I sometimes think this is exactly what goes on in the minds of the phone-addicted generation (which includes my kids). I do not understand why you'd want to live that way (constantly plugged into the trivial), though I personally have a "dumb" cellphone (after resisting for years) partly because we can't afford for the grownups to have Smartphones what with paying for the data plans for the kids, and... because I don't want to risk becoming like that.

Dark humor, powerful social message, and what a punch to the gut.
