book recommendations?

I have been trying to read more, and generally doing a pretty good job of it.  I've gotten through several nonfiction books and novels in the last few months.  I finally had to stop buying books, and got a library card.  I haven't had a public library card since I lived in southern california!  so pathetic.  in fairness, I did work at the public ( Read more... )

Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and I'm now reading Half of a Yellow Sun by her. After that, That Thing Around Your Neck.

Also, read Bonk by the Stiff author! It's awesome and hilarious.

I just picked up two books written by a surgeon, one was nominated for the natl book award, the second is called Better... Can't recall the first or the author. They were buy 1 get 1 50% off at Borders.

The author is Atul Gawande, and the name of his first book escapes me at the moment as well. He's an excellent writer.

SD, we're doing that live-the-same-life-but-different thing again... I went to the library today, to get the book to read and discuss with my In2Books penpal, and was thinking how I'd love to figure out something good to get to read for my own pleasure. I even considered coming home and asking lj to make some suggestions. I get here, check out my friends list, and... you've beaten me to it. Eerie. :)
