MOD POST, again. Hopefully last for a bit.

Dec 03, 2009 02:06

I was hoping to not have to do this so soon, but I think that it is time to address a few things.

I am thrilled this community is getting more traffic, as I am sure that the other mods and maintainer/s are. BUT, and there is always a but.....

I understand a lot of this is coming out of a reaction from the post in fatshionista. It took us all by surprise. ( Read more... )

I'd like to request that we stop prefacing our OOTD posts with "since I'm not fat enough for fatshionista, I'll post this here." Makes me feel like inbetweenies is the poor step-child community, not the pseudo-sister community.

Also, I love the coupons/sales alerts/all that perma post that fats has. I'd be happy to have that here so I can get more email alerts for good deals!

Also, apropos of nothing, does anyone else Google Wave? I'd really like to wave with more people.

This is completely off-topic, but I appreciate the visual of your icon in juxtaposition with your username.

All right, I won't post "since I'm not fat enough for fatshionista", I did know about this community before, but... I thought it was for people sizes 8-10... which I am soo not.

Thanks for this post :) I'm still reeling in shock over the Fatshionista mod post and I'm terribly confused so bear with me here....

I have always (as a size 14-16 Australian) posted OOTDs to Fatshionista and they have always been published (and I have *always* included my size, measurements and height). I'm not sure if these will be continued to be acceptable there or only here or if its ok to cross post OOTDs. Could an OOTD be interesting to both Fats and here? Would this just annoy people?

And if someone who is 44-36-44 can't post, why the hell is Fatshionista letting me post at 36-31-46? It must be because I'm short! Sorry this all so disjointed and jumbled, I'm hurt and confused at the moment. I feel like a long term boyfriend has just broken up wtih me :(

i was told because of my height, weight size and all that i would probably be rejected. lovely, right? but if i had posted three months ago before losing more weight due to meds and, well, not being able to eat because of chronic health issues, i would have been fine. it's one of the things that bugs me- we can't talk about weight loss on fats, but my weight loss does really affect my body image, because it is constantly shifting how i look, and making it harder and harder to find things to fit as i become a more defined hour glass shape, one that is nearly impossible to fit in any stores. it's something that i should be able to address there, because according to my top two measurements, i am plus size, but with the middle, i'm not. i have taught myself to alter my clothing, search out things that fit well, buy longer t's, and embrace skirts and dresses that can be altered to fit. but, because of my weight, size, and the fact that my weight is dropping, i'm probably not going to be welcome, or at least questioned as to whether ( ... )

I mostly lurk both here & there, but I wish we talked about this kind of stuff, just for the record. I think that weight change, regardless of the reasons, has a lot of implications that are not always considered b/c your perception of yourself is relatively static over time and a significant swing in either direction really does force you to confront a lot of things that you might not have even noticed as you were heading toward that place, be it smaller or larger than you previously saw yourself.

I also think you can have that conversation without OMG I LOST/GAINED 50 POUNDS AND I'M [fill in adjective here] attached to it, but that's jmo.

Hiya, another mod here. To answer your other question, regarding cross-posting: yes you definitely can do that. I know many of us do it all the time, both with sales posts and OOTDs. Go for it! I will also be curious to know if your posts get rejected from fats, so feel free to mention it if you care to. :)

I never liked the coupon perma-post that fats had, but I honestly don't have a better solution. I'm sure I can just dust off my Track This button if I really wanted to. :) And the style of the community is fine by me, since I only view it on my flist anyway.

I don't know if this is totally goofy or not, but maybe we could think about theme days or weeks, at least for a little while? While inbetweenies is suddenly more active, there's only 10% of the membership fats has, and so just recreating the fats community over here might be tricky. A lot fewer people posting, for one! I'm in a few communities with theme days, and while a few members groan a bit the themes help to get everybody involved. :D Of course, I'm not sure what sort of themes might be fun to start with... I'm just tossing that out there. :)

themes are good. not sure how that would work- one dog comm has wordless wednesdays, which i love, there is housemate heaven one tuesdays ine a, well house mate horrors comm, um, so jumping off points.

we do have to take into account that we are a global community, so what is winter in the northern hemisphere is summer elsewhere, so things like favorite winter wear is incredibly, well, focused on certain areas. so- any suggestions? i for one am all about showing off my boot collection that i wear year round, but we have had some mild weather this summer, so i got a lot more wear out of them. so- have you got any ideas? i am more than willing to hear them. i really want to get things really going here, especially given that we have quite a few regular fats posters here, which has inspired me to put my photos where my mouth is.

I was thinking about this more, and I think it might be fun to do... challenges, I guess? Since this is a fashion community, the mods could set up weekly inspiration (using suggestions from members if they wanted) that people who wanted to participate could try to build an outfit around. The inspiration could be anything from a movie to a cartoon character to a color. I'm not sure how reasonable that idea is, it just seems like it might be fun. :)

I'm actually not sure about theme days, I'll have to think about it. Maybe a No Pants Friday? XD A lot of members seem to wear, or want to wear, mostly skirts/dresses. Something like that would have to be totally optional since not everybody here is comfortable out of pants (... oh, you know what I mean) but it would be a fun thing to do, possibly.

I could probably think of more if you thought it was a good idea. :) I bet a lot of people would have good ideas, too.

Um, I don't know how the background stuff works in livejournal, but I personally prefer a darker background, and I will contact some people to see if they can help with some codes? This community can be pretty, I think. :)

i do, too. honestly, i hate the white backgrounds- i suffer from chronic intractable migraines and basilar migraines, and the white backgrounds kill my eyes, which then causes pain spikes. i have my monitor set up for me, so i don't notice it, which makes me forget about the rest of the world.

I think it looks like ... we don't even make an effort, if we have a white background. So sad. :(

omg migraines. Woaa, have you been to a neurologist? Are they just giving you pain meds and that's it? I hope they can treat migraines, but I am not hearing good news. :(

In regard to regional communities, I know that there’s chicago_fats and mdwst_fatshion, both of which are sadly quiet.

(Speaking of Chicago things...anyone going to Renegade this weekend? Not fat-specific, per se...but I found a lot of vendors who either did plus sized items as a matter of course or were more than happy to do custom work to fit my sz 22 self.)
