Arthur didn't even know he was pregnant until a terrified Eames shook him awake one night and he was covered in blood, so he shouldn't care that he lost the baby right? He shouldn't be wondering if he could have prevented it, or wondering what the child would have looked like...at least that's what he keeps telling himself. So he tries to make himself feel nothing, and if that means he has to push Eames away, so be it. He figures Eames probably blames him anyways.

(I'm just in the mood for a really angsty fic.)

The noise of a piano was a dull undertone to the cacophony of endless chatter that rang throughout the great, thundering Hampstead home of Adam Jaworski and his wife, Mariella. The high pale walls of each room were coated in paintings and the dark wood floor spread throughout the entire house, which was stuffed full of relics and faintly charming furniture and a melange of people who were well under the glow of champagne and dressed in either eccentric and classical designs. The scent of heady perfumes and giant sprays of flowers punctured the air and mixed with the smells of the pathetic bits of cheeses and fresh fruits being passed around by white jacketed waiters

They were dropped into silence, shifting every so often, glancing around and gazing at the painting and Arthur was sure this was the first time it had ever been awkward between them without the air fizzing with pent-up frustration

He wanted the little thing that had been inside him more than anything. If he had known, he would have done everything right but he didn’t so he hadn’t done anything for it and it had curled into itself and left a bloody mess on their sheets without a rush of love ever attributed to its existence and it just wasn’t fair.

*makes dry sobbing noises* ;_;

God, this is so heartbreaking. For once we get some good, proper angst here, and I'm loving it.

Ugh, this is terrible and beautiful and painful. I feel rather contradictory because I'm a sucker for angst but it breaks my heart every time.

Also, the paragraph where Arthur reflects on how they would usually act at parties in contrast to the current awkwardness and stiltedness really made me sad. I'm so worried they're going to drift apart ;__;

Whilst breathing in the stench of his own sick from the toilet, Arthur lost track of time as all of his energy had rolled out of him in thick waves. His body was curved as he rested his head on the cool toilet seat, saliva and thick dribbles of sour liquid hanging from his lips

Arthur didn’t inform Eames of his little soliloquy the following morning and their first Halloween together faded by without celebration. The pumpkin remained untouched until it had almost caved in on itself and was lobbed into the outside bins by Arthur a couple of days after a dismal bonfire night. The chilled, dreary early morning air was still clogged up with the scent of smoke
