The Giraffe!

I went to Burning Man! It was a 32 hour drive out there. Very long, but not as long as you might think. Expectation has a lot to do with whether or not a long road trip is soul crushing. I personally like driving, especially when I have someone neat to do it with, and Ian is a great travel companion. He's cheerful, agreeable, will listen to a lot ( Read more... )

Thank you! Had a blast reading this and watching the pictures/video.
Might have heard about Burning Man (vaguely rings a bell) but I never knew what it was until now (I don't live in the USA).

i loved your bm blogerator! you captured the experience.
once you learn to be one with the dust, you'll be back!
p.s. zo thinks playa dust makes the best hair product! having no hair, of course, i wouldn't know!

This is my favorite picture post of yours EVAR. :)

My best friend and I have resolved to go to burning man before we are 25, and that's next year, so we better go next summer. If you decide to go again next year, let me know...

Your pictures are beautiful, and it looks like SO Much fun, despite the weather, although... I'm sure it's easy to say that when you aren't being sandblasted and burned alive :)

I'm so glad you got to go and experience it!

Thanks Kelly. Despite reason and sanity, there is a good chance that I will try to go again next year. I hope you do!

As someone with long hair, I can tell you with some certainty that the way to do burning man is to put your hair in braids. If you can stand having lots of small braids, they're better. Then, late week, when you start to go insane, get someone to wash your hair in a bucket, prior to dust storm time, and with enough time to dry off. It's better than trying to do it yourself.

Sew up the ventilation flaps on your tent, and try to keep it a less dusty zone.

I totally understand about how being dusty All The Time with no forseeable cleanliness in the near future is stressful- I had tiny tantrum my first year, mostly because of my hair. My second year, I'd shaved almost all of my hair off, and could dowse my head with water daily and feel refreshed- never ever felt the stressout even though I was there almost a full week early, to help set up center camp.

Lovely photographs.
