Yay!! Now we know why she is the favorite! How can you be sure who laid them though? Do they each have their own nest? And who is Number Four? Is that a rename?

They don't have their own nest, but Favorite is the first one to spend a great deal of time in the nest boxes and Tony said she was in that box all day yesterday. Number Four is nesting today though! Whee. Their names are Taxi, Monster, Favorite, and Number Four.

I wonder what it feels like to lay an egg. I wonder if it feels at all like middleschmertz feels (the human version of egg laying when it hurts). If so, I feel sorry for them.

I'm sure it's not the most pleasant thing in the entire world but they seem pretty pleased with the whole process. They enjoy nesting and will allow me to pet them while they're in the boxes. They make soft noises and look adorable.

YAY! I'm glad your girls are working it out. :)

And, I have to say now that I eat eggs nearly every single morning: I like to have two eggs, and the big ones I find are not only too big to make a good toad-in-the-hole, but too filling. Your eggs look like the cage-free vegetarian fed ones that I buy at the hippie store.

I can't remember if you eat eggs or not?

I do eat eggs! That was actually the inspiration for the chicken ownership. They do terrible things to the mass producing egg chickens and I wanted to take myself out of that equation as much as possible. This seemed to be a good way.

How long before they pay for themselves, monetarily--or do they ever? My squawkings about having our own chickens have raised this issue with my practical husband...

They have already paid for themselves in hugs and enjoyment and entertainment. I don't know if I'll ever save money by owning chickens, especially since I'm not going to sell, kill or dump any of them after they stop producing ( ... )

You should eat them raw to make it worth it. Then train for a boxing fight like Rocky.

I'm a lover, not a fighter.
