I don't watch/read Death Note, but for those of you that do (and I know there are several people on my flist that do):

On April 30, 2009, Variety magazine announced that Warner Bros. acquired the rights for the Death Note manga to be adapted into a live-action movie in the United States. Warner Bros. has hired screenwriters Charley and Vlas ( Read more... )

My initial reaction was, of course, AAAAGH MAKE IT STOP. On the other hand, I'm not in love with the Japanese movies BECAUSE they are so different from the anime and manga. I LOVE that anime. So I'm kind of interested? But in general I really wish that we could start producing movies and tv shows that come from our own ideas without stealing them from everyone else. Every time I hear about a US remake of a tv show, a kitten gets run over. And that's not me doing it, it's karma. PLEASE THINK OF THE KITTENS.

YES. SERIOUSLY, THINK OF THE KITTENS.

I heard that the Death Note JP live action movie wasn't like the manga at all, and I'm sure fans would love to see something that was faithful to the manga in a live action movie. I'm mostly concerned with race issues (like always lol.)

Ugh. :( I have mixed feelings about Death Note, but seriously, ENOUGH with the whitewashed anime remakes. IDGI.

Starring Brad Pitt as Light. In other words I agree with you.

You know, I would be excited, because OMG I LOVE DEATH NOTE TO BITS AND YOU SHOULD TOTALLY LOOK INTO IT BECAUSE IT IS THE AWESOME, but this is a Hollywood remake we're talking about. So I'm not too excited. I'm expecting the series to be butchered. Then again, I've never even seen the Japanese adaptations, so I dunno.

As long as Zac Efron played Light I think I'd go see it. Really, IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
