I've been going back and forth on writing or not writing about the immigration debate here, but I found this article which pretty much sums up my views on it very well. It's maybe a little more extreme than I am in some portions but basically it's how I feel and it has a good, informed historical perspective:

The phrase "back and forth" in an immigration-debate post... Intentional pun, or not? I am glad to see that you are not "on the fence" about the issues.

I'm not sure how many illegal aliens you know, but I take pride in the fact i'm an illegal alien working an american job. It's really the only thing that gets me through the day because it's so god damn funny.

It's not easy being an american. I'm not american enough to be an american. I agree they should make it easier or fair, but that article was pretty poorly argued. Some of the assumptions made like,

"Illegal immigrants would upset legal immigrating people" isn't backed up by anybody, but just a bad assumption. I'd say legal immigrating people would probably tell you the sheer amount of bullshit they had to endure to get to a point that's non-equal with an american.

The part of me that ohio agrees with you, but the rest of me is calling bullshit on this whole situation.

I think we understand each other tho ;) so catch me if you can

The whole situation is bullshit because no one is really looking out for people as a whole, they're looking out for themselves, their politics, their party, their corporate loyalties. There are no progressives making the big decisions anymore, which is partly the point of the article ( ... )
