i've been desperately wanting post-fight fic. It took me awhile to realize the chronology, but in retrospect i loved getting the end result first and watching it play backwards. Lee taking off his ring...their touch-and-go mentality in the briefing room; the Agathons not quite fussing over Kara...i love it. Thank you for writing and sharing!
Thank you! It just seemed to fit - from the moment they entered the ring their fate was sealed. (Well, even before that, but anyway...) Pilots forever!!
Ooooooooh. Just the thing I needed to send me on my whirlwind trip to NYC. I'm sure I'll spend the whole internet-less weekend just dying to read it again. I love this so much! I'd do that thing where I pick out the bits I like the best and repost them, but I don't think LJ will let me repost the entire fic. Hee! But this was absolutely gorgeous! I loved how it moved from future to present to past, and the language was just lovely. Beautiful.
And fic for me was just exactly what I needed after my also woeful day. You are an absolute darling and I adore you forever for this!
I've been wondering myself what happened next, so I love how you imagines it. The backwards timeline is very effective, each step bringing us closer to the beginning (ending).
The one thing I couldn't fit into this was a conversation between Lee and Dee. I'd love to read something where she says she's not willing to give him up. (I think you alluded to this in another comment.) Dee can't compete on the grounds of primal attraction, but I bet guilt and duty might keep Lee married for a while longer.
Gorgeous. The work-backwards gambit pays off beautifully there, tracing backwards from the foregone conclusion (if you're in love with pilots) to the surprises. And so beautifully done.

Exactly! Much as I love me some pilot!sex, for this scenario it was the easiest outcome to postulate. The more intriguing thing for me was the emotional truth of how they get (back) to that point. And the structure just all came clear when I rewatched the scene where they toss their tags into the box, because that was the ep in a nutshell right there. Everything was inevitable after that.

I wrote this, so you would think I'd realize the progression, but in my mind it was just "backwards". hee!
