I can imagine them doing this. It's within both their natures to make this statement, and enjoy doing so.

I also forgot to say how much I loved the rain falling in the night--I love rain and associate it with peace and contentment, so the idea of them coccooned with each other in the rain is really satisfying.

Me too! I grew up in a house that had what was essentially a tin roof, and fell asleep many a night to the sound of storms coming in and keeping up a steady rhythm overhead. It was very soothing.
