Bonsoir, mon ami(e)! French class has been grueling and fun and all kinds of hilarious, and our teacher is very gay and very awesome. 8D I feel very accomplished now that my Friends page is a bit more manageable - and very, very ~free~ and ~un-awkward~ too.
Anyhow~! I was drowning myself in worry unhealthy amounts of coffee over June and July, and

To Kill a Mocking Bird
I'm beginning the manga Katekyo Hitman Reborn, and for Ookiku (PLEASE watch in japanese with english subtitle. The english version? SOOOO boring and *not* worth it!)
And One Piece! God, it's been like 2 years since I haven't read that. I should re-read it completely! (Totally forgot!)
And I remember that (I actually pretty much hate all j-drama but Nodame Cantadile was one that was actually worth it! I should re-watch it again with the other epilogue!!)
<333
Btw, if you want some good drama, just tell me. I'll recommend you some :)

Oh, you're beginning KHR as well, mag? Cool - we can start together and (hopefully, if it's good) fangirl about it together! *___* (The english version of Ookiku was, uh yes, SOOOO boring and *not* worth it, to be frank. But since English versions of almost all anime tnd to suck, I'll give the Japanese version a try if you want...? Hm... now where can I get my hands on a HD Ookiku vid? I'm in for a hunt, it seems
Is One Piece... good? I mean, I've heard it's good, but I've also heard that Vampire Knight is supposed to be good, and it isn't. Not really - it's nothing excellent like NANA or Nodame ( ... )

I... actually don't have anything left to beta. >___>;; I went over the fic the day after I sent you the PM. I completed the initial once-over and then threw in my thoughts on a few awkward sentence structures, and jerky transitions, so technically my work is done.
Technically.
There are some bits towards the end which are... giving me trouble, so to speak. There was really nothing wrong with it, per say, but I feel that the fic would only be appealing to devoted SasuNaru fans (I'm tearing my hair out wondering how I can make it appeal to a wider audience :/) - I'm trying to take some liberties with characterization, and tone down on Naruto and Sasuke's reactions (they seem to... overreact a bit, especially towards the end?). But maybe that's just me being pedantic - I seriously don't believe ( ... )

I… did not like Jane Eyre so much. The recent summary that I gave to a friend reading it for class was, “Jane Eyre is basically: boring, boring, boring, boring, oh hey Rochester is a douche!, boring boring boring, Rochester is more of a douche, more boring, they get married”, so you can see my opinion on the book. It is one of those classics, but… I am not a fan of the Bronte sisters as much as I am of Austen. If you didn’t like Heathcliff, then you probably won’t like Rochester, so just because of that I’d advise against this one. It’s your choice though.
A Brief History of Time
YES. STEPHEN HAWKING. This is a book that is well-worth reading (coming from an astronomy geek, so take this as you will), especially when it comes to modern thought about the nature of our universe. It can be kind of dense in places, and things can be very confusing (and I know I still don’t understand all of it), but definitely worth checking out!

This is a gorgeous series, and I mean that in every sense of the word. I know that I was initially a little bit wary of it, considering the show seemed a little bit too childish and anime-knock-off to me, but wow was I wrong. It’s influenced by anime, but the show brings its own sense of style. The first season can be a little bit hit-or-miss (although I love almost all of the episodes desperately), but by the second season it really hits its stride - and the animation, while a little bit “Americanized-anime”, is really gorgeous, especially in later seasons with a stronger budget. The characters are fun, with a lot of depth and thought put into them, and the creators really know how to write female characters, which is refreshing and awesome and I love it! I think that you’ll love it too. It’s got such a good sense of world-building, of a good solid plot interspersed with a lot of fun - it’s lovely! BUT DON’T LET ME TELL YOU. WATCH IT AND SEE ( ... )

the animation, while a little bit “Americanized-anime”, is really gorgeous, especially in later seasons with a stronger budget. - "Stronger budget" does seem to imply a lot of this - obviously, the show is popular, so the producers are going to invest more. But then again, a lot of anime have strong budgets like BLEACH! and don't really do well in terms of... well, anything. :/
Still, since it seems to be so highly praised by everyone I know, I'll give it a try, because:
♦ I love world-building with a passion.
♦ And hell yeah, it has strong FEMALE characters Take that, Kishimoto! Did I mention I was a sucker for strong female leads? I'm especially looking forward to getting to know Katara. And the Princess of Fire Coutnry... What was her name again? (Zuko/Katara seems to be the most popular pairing in fandom - apparently, because ( ... )

I cannot emphasize it enough: don't let the movie scare you off of this series! There is a reason it is near-universally hated by fandom.
And hell yeah, it has strong FEMALE characters
THE SHEER AMOUNT OF AWESOME LADIES IN AVATAR MAKES ME EYEHEART.
Zuko/Katara seems to be the most popular pairing in fandom - apparently, because of great chemistry and all... Who exactly is Zuko, anyway? Something tells me this pairing is not canon...Zuko is the prince of the fire nation who is sort of one of the main antagonists. And yeah it's not canon ( ... )

Oh, also, re: what you said in a comment: I don't remember for sure anymore (it's been about 7 years since I last read this book), but now that I think about it, there's a good chance that there's a lot of Southern dialect in it. So that might be one thing that's causing problems for you.
As for KHR!, I keep meaning to read that and then never actually get around to it. Also, on a random note, I would totally agree with you about hating babies.
Doctor Who -- There might be a manga version of it somewhere? But it's primarily a show on BBC. And I have nothing else to say about it, because I totally can't look at it objectively at all. Doctor Who was like, my childhood fandom or something.

Well, since practically everyone is insisting, I guess I'll be reading TKaMB. I didn't understand much of the first page - and you're right. Maybe the Southern dialect (e.g. runt he Creeks up the creek. Um, what?) has something to do with it. Actually yes, that's it. I'll have google on standby because I cannot read something without having a firm sense of the background first.
Ohhhh! You're going to read KHR as well? Cool! That makes.... three of us then. :3 Sasuke would tolerate babies better than I could. Don't think me heartless for this. :/And... I wouldn't know about Doctor Who being a manga (because as stated, I was too lazy to check). But all the art I've seen for it seem to be anime/manga-ish. Or at least, that's what I got after googling DW manga. I'm guessing DW has been airing for quite a while now...? Gawd, I need to Wiki ( ... )

Well, I'd like to read KHR, at least. I never seem to actually find the time. Or, more accurately, I get distracted and go do something else.
Sasuke taking care of babies would be terrifying. For everyone involved.
DW has been on forever. ...Although there's a new series and an old series, with quite a long gap in between them.
I was going to do that myself, but you got there I see :p
Wha? No, I didn't request anything. D: Now I want to know what it was!

That was me, but I think I should clarify. Its not a similar story or style of writing at all, but the reception of the books were similar. Gone with the Wind was a run away hit everyone was reading and obsessing over. There were sold out books stores, grand parties about it and a lot of fannish talk about the casting etc. of the movie before it was produced. That said, I've never read the whole thing. The movie was long enough. It's an interesting story though.
Wind in the Willows was a book I enjoyed as a kid, but didn't finish when I tried to reread as an adult. I'd be very curious how you'd feel about Watership Down. It is also a classic, and it also has animal characters but it is for adults and is a very different novel. It explores how story and myth fit into a culture. My (very negative) classmates all called it the "Bloody Bunny Book" (and it is a bit bloody, to be fair) but you...dont' forget they are rabbits, but you become very entrenched ( ... )

You must, must read Soul Eater. The plot is that there's a school for weapons/handler partners to train them to take evil, murderous souls and make the world better, and it talks about insanity a lot. Its much better than it sounds. Also some Soul/Maka but it a very gradual thing, which makes it realistic to me. And the protagonists don't always win, so every fight, every triumph or failure really means something. Turns many shoeun tropes on their ear (even having a female lead, a deliberate move on the mangaka's part, who felt there should be female protagonists in shoeun.)
That said, the first, like five chapters are harder to get through, but then it takes off

Oh, I did read quite a bit of Soul Eater, actually. I'm way past the first five chapters, in fact, and I didn't find them dragging in any way - well, that's not entirely true. I did find that cat-witch-girl part a bit... trying (it felt too much like shoujo for a while), but then Maka starts yelling about men and their uh, faithlessness, and the way Soul turns the battle around was <333.
I love how Maka's mother was a master technician - like mother, like daughter. Which, btw, is very refreshing about all the father/brother tropes. DX
I'm currently past the part where BlackStar (who fails at subtlety big time) and Soul's battle against DtheKidd. I love the small Soul/Maka moment that follows ( ... )

It'll, however, not deter me from reading TKaMB. Trashy teenage romance told from a whiny, obnoxious sue's POV doesn't scare me. Twilight doesn't scare me. I think. Have faith in me. I will attempt to read TKaMB like the brave soul you seem to think I am. I can't believe you're making me do this D':

furthermore, TKaMB isn't a difficult book by any stretch, I mean teenagers can easily read it, it just happens to be pretty darn amazing as well as reader friendly.
