...I would try to help, but unfortunately I've never really been a fan of any of the bands listed. D:

New Zealand? Are they good? I know next to nothing about cricket, except that it's something the English play, lol.

Lol, with the exception of Led Zeppelin, the bands listed aren't really well known, but they have some of the most ~unique~ musical compositions ever. XD

No no no! Daniel Vettori's team isn't bad (but nowhere as well-rounded as the the Australian cricket giants), but this time their performance was surprisingly disappointing. I mean, a run score of 174 should have been easy to live up to but the Bengal Tigers were really a ~team~ in this one. They owned the tournament here - I guess it had something to do with defending native ground.♥ Or something.

You probably wouldn't like cricket even if you got to know the game right now - it's nowhere as exciting as it used to be twenty years back. Back then, it was all about the risks and making the crowd go wild. Now it's all about wagers and bets and contracts and the players are wimps and never hit any huge sixes anymore. :(

And it ain't something that only the English play nowadays, Mr. Hester. No sirreeee. :P Lol @ your icon.

I confess that I haven't listened to enough Led Zeppelin to really comment. But...I'm going to be cliché and say that I like "Stairway to Heaven." I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I have really good memories associated with the song--when I was a senior, we picked it to play in my high school orchestra...things like that. However, I also really like "The Battle of Evermore." This is definitely because I like the story that it tells. Myth/folklore references=easy way to win my heart.

Lol, Stairway to Heaven! Almost every fan I've asked loves that song. :D I find that taste in music vary a lot due to personal experiences - like the one you just described. So what may be a dear song to one person, may merely rate as 'boring' to another, I guess? But yes, I can definitely see why Stairway to Heaven is the most requested radio song even now. XD

The...Battle of Evermore? This title really hasn't come up much in the LZ posts I've researched - I'll have to check it out~ (for some reason, it surprises me that Led Zeppelin has written a song like this - with mythical references and all. I guess I'll have o discard any pre-conceived notions I have to them and listen to their music first before writing an even remotely accurate article >.>;;) on this note, I'm a sucker for folklore/mythic references as well, so I'll be downloading this immediately.

Ahhh, so, to introduce yourself to Led Zeppelin, I suggest YouTube. All of their songs are on there! Personally I really love IV and III, and of course physical grafitti. :)
My favorite song changes by the moment-right now it's caroselambra (bet I spelled that wrong!!) from In Through The Out Door...
Hmm.. Really there are only a couple of songs I don't like of theirs.. Tried checking out the Royal Albert Hall performance? It's awesome. The clothes are wicked also. Lime pageys vest!! XD (Jimmy page=pagey. Sorry, I'm a Jimmy fangirl. :)

I heard that Led Zeppelin's fourth album was officially untitled, but it was still a big hit. It's commonly referred to as Led Zeppelin 1V. I... didn't know there was a Led Zeppelin...III. Well, of course, there was a third album, but I'll have to check out the title./sigh. This means more research. D:

Lol~ Carouselambra was... different. It really wasn't anything I expected. The lyrics were beautiful - I especially liked "Dull is the armour, cold is the day; Hard was the journey, dark was the way". Even though i'd have liked it more if the vocalist's voice... ~floated~, or to simply put it, took precedence over the intrumentals, I like it this way just fine. I love how the mood goes from fast, hard, upbeat to slow, and dragging and sorrowful so naturally ( ... )

The fourth album was officially untitled. The story is that the band's detractors said they were only selling albums because of the name (which is really kinda meaningless), so the band didn't put their name on it. Which is also kinda meaningless, since everyone knows it's a Led Zeppelin album.

Led Zeppelin I, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, In Through the Out Door--They all rock.

I do know what you are talking about in Carouselambra ;) Im listing to it right now. I have no idea what it is played by though. Sorry! Yes, Sir James Patrick Page is on guitar, Robert Plant-vocals. Oh yeah! They were really cute!!

Well, if you compare Royal Albert Hall to Black Sabbaths Paris 1970 show-it seems almost tame :) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePzkKAarR8c&hd=1) But RAH is still amazing, when people dont like Black Sabbath they can love Led Zeppelin!!

There are so many Zep songs I love that I couldn't possibly narrow it down to just ten... they have roots and influences from classic blues greats like Robert Johnson all the way up to some of their own contemporaries. For Bluesy influences, check out tracks like "In My Time of Dying", "When the Levee Breaks" and "Traveling Riverside Blues" (which is a remake of the original Robert Johnson song). For a lighter almost ballad-like mood, try "That's the Way", "The Rain Song", and "Going to California". Robert Plant was a huge history buff and fan of Lord of the Rings- those influences can be heard in tracks like "Battle of Evermore" and "Immigrant Song". The song "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" was written about Plant's dog Strider (named after the character in Lord of the Rings). There is also a folksy version of that song just called "Bron-Y-Aur". "Rock and Roll" hearkens back to the Buddy Holly days of early Rock n Roll, "Tangerine" has the sound of a country song, and you can ear the international influences in songs like "Kashmir" and " ( ... )

You know, I... kind of understand your dilemma regarding trying to choose just ten favorites out of so many. Mostly because I stayed up last night and researched, jotted down points for the rest of the article until I couldn't hold my pen properly anymore. There's just... so much to say and I'm seriously wondering how I'll say it all without exceeding the deadline.

So, I'll ask you a few questions via PM, if that's... okay? The Wiki page suggests that not everything was ~glamorous~ between the band members in the later days of their career.

That aside, I've listened to Battle of Evermore and Immigrant Song first thing because I'm a sucker for mythical references. DX They are irresistible. Even though I like how Immigrant Song starts out (ah, nobody seems to do that wicked screaming stuff anymore. WHYYY ;__;), I have to say my vote goes to Battle of Evermore, like I've told someone in comments above. The mostly dormant melody critic in me just demands that I like it. The instrumentals are awesome ( ... )

Zep is overrated, and still one of the greatest bands ever.

They brought whole new dimensions to rock music, ones that were only just beginning to be explored in the late sixties. Perfected the art of the heavy blues, and brought English folk-rock along with it. Page and Jones were consummate musicians. Plant and Bonham had unique sounds and strengths. They all put the music first, in their songs.

"Good times Bad Times" - breathtaking. Greatest track one, side one, debut album ever.

Hahaha, O_O. Overrated, and still one of the greatest bands ever? Now that is quite an accomplishment right there. XD

I guess people just treat Zeppelin with a different sort of respect because they were The First. That is something you have to defer to, I suppose.

They all put the music first, in their songs - You mean the intrumentals? You know... usually when I listen to any contemporary band, what I notice first is the vocalist's voice since I sing a little to. It's sort of like instinct/habit. But, the moment I listened to Led Zeppelin's songs, my attention inevitably gets diverted to the instrumentals, not the voice. I have to concede: the instrumentals are amazing. ♪___♪

The first time I heard Good Times, Bad Times, I was a kid and completely fascinated by the sound coming out of the speakers and I haven't heard it ever since. So when I downloaded it yesterday, and lsitened to it, I was pleasantly surprised. :D I love the beginning, and I love that, uh, ~drunken~ edge to the end. Beautiful♥

I say they're one of the best. Not necessarily *the* best, but certainly up there at the top. there are a lot of people who feel they're head and shoulders above any other band, and I don't think that's true. That's why I say they're the best and also overrated.

Zep was the first to do what they do (did). They revolutionized the sound of rock. But they weren't the first to do that, and they certainly weren't the last. Maybe they spawned more imitators than any other band, save the Beatles. But there were many other artists who had as much of an influence, just not so overt. Bob Dylan, for example, changed the way songs were written, and BB King practically invented the guitar solo.

The thing is, while Zep did everything so excellently, they also did it spectacularly.About putting the music first, I meant that there were no ego struggles when writing the songs. Nobody claimed ownership of a song, and prevented other input. All four guys were on the same page about making the best music possible. At least, that's how Jones described ( ... )
