I haven’t been on LJ for a month due to personal reasons, but during that time, I’ve been reading. Books, physics guides, doujin, medical texts, wiki pages on Japanese cultures, and fanfiction.

Especially fanfiction.

Fandom, why so complicated? D: )

fanfiction, fanfiction recs, fandom: naruto, fandom, fic search, help!, absence, character: sasuke, fic, announcement, flist, character: naruto, discussion, character: sakura, fanfiction: au

Erm...man, I've been inactive in this fandom for a long time, but reading your post, well, I thought I might meekly poke my head forth and offer my fic, along with the most amazing author I've ever had the pleasure to read: sowell

She is fabulous. She writes both Sasuke and Naruto (as well as Sakura!) damn well, and enticingly in character. She can make you crack up with a clever turn of phrase one moment and have you wiping your eyes the next from sadness.

Seriously, you will love her.

And if you don't mind, may I tentatively push forward a few of my own fic...?

Awake to Dream (originally for a drabble challenge, so rather short)

And Death

and lastly, a more gen/nascent SasuNaru fic: Of Rivalry And Rules

Seriously, though, check sowell out.

I second this and also wolfpilot's stuff.

BUT

Indira, seriously, no offence to them, but in my varied, varied experience, the authors who claim it's blah tops or nothing, aren't actually very good.

Anddd good luck finding decent work XD.

I know - who's to say who tops? I've never been in a homosexual relationship, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that. :/

Thanks~ I'm frantically digging through my old files for a list of authors I wanted to read six months back - I can't seem to remember where I saved it. ;__; oh no, what if I accidentally deleted it or something? D:

Ah, I've read sowell actually, and you're right: she's pretty damn brilliant. The kind of brilliant that makes me go *____*. I can't seem to decide which of her fics I like best - they're just all so good. Her characterization was particularly amazing in this. And of course, there's always that ~wild west~ texas fic she wrote. Just: WOW. And, also: leather pants. UNF. *__*

(And the fact that she always throws around hint of so much Neji/Hina makes my heart flutter happily in my ribcage♥)

I'll be saving all her available fics, soon~ Thank you for reminding me!

RE: Awake to Dream - I love this. To be completely honest, this is exactly how I imagine things between them - and exactly the kind of awkward, teenage sex I needed to read today. What's even better is the subtle sprinkling of angst over certain phrases. I've always adored that snapshot style of writing - the glimpses of intimacy between Sasuke and Naruto were lovely~

I've spent the better part of the last ten minutes saving all your fics on FFN, actually.

Hey! It's been a while~
Normally when asked for recs I point people to fics in sn_exchange , but I'm sure you've scoured them all, so.

you know, I was a bit concerned with your randomly asking for rec's because a lot of people hanging around lj actually have awful taste but your f-list seems to know what it's doing. I second ALL OF THE ABOVE. Daybreak is awesome BUT a wIP. my heart goes squee every time it updates.

OH and it occurred to me, you might like Sirona And Ember's entry to the big bang? It's about space pirates and noodles. unless you already read it?

Lol, awful taste, I know~ I think someone just rec'd me a stereotypical seme/uke over at my entry at the sasunaru com, but thankfully aquarian_days was quick to save warn me. Oh thank god. DX

I think Daybreak is beyond awesome - I ended up speed-reading all of it today - every single word - because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next, or when Sasuke would stop being so damn frigid and (slowly, painfully, but finally) give in. It's just damn amazing~ I feel like this is the SN fic I've wanted to read all my life but had never found because I'm such a wimp when it comes to SN fic-hunting. >___>;;

And what is this. What do you mean. I've read that. How could I have not. I've read that enough times to get... intimately acquainted... with certain words and phrases. I'm sure sirona knows that very well, actually. >__>;;

aquarian days knows what she's doing. I trust her... ha ha ha i'm biased because she was one of my first readers. But she does seem to know her stuff! GO FORTH, INDIRA.

I love Daybreak! I love Taka in it SO MUCH. Sasukeeeeeeeeee.

Oh, bb! <3

I gotta say, I've sort of become a little bored of the Naruto fandom lately, mainly because of the points you set out above, but there is the occasional gem that I find even now -- but mainly through other people's recs, really.

HMMMM. Well, you already have the link to my LJ Memories -- anything good I find is always stashed there, but here's a couple links to stuff I've saved on my laptop, since they're on different sites:

Making "The Lucky" by ladygizarme
Summary: Next summer’s blockbuster movie will be out of this world! …if the stars can make it through the filming without killing each other.
This is an AU, NaruSasuNaru but with a bunch of other characters, and it's long and hella fun. I really enjoyed that one!

Ugh. I still love the Naruto fandom, Neve, but that special ~spark~ just... isn't there anymore between us especially with all the shit Kishi insists on pulling. why do I sound like I'm about to dump an abusive boyfriend? >_>;; I don't even follow the manga anymore unless, you know, Sasuke's in the chapter and even that's just because there's a high possibility he'll lose his shirt somehow. He always does. now, this can't fault Kishi for.

Thank you for the recs, bb! - I've just read GTCIN, and it was so adorable.♥ And just because I was curious, I skimmed Making "The Lucky" by ladygizarme - Sai as a movie star is a riot. He seriously needs to learn how to keep his mouth shut if doesn't want to give the paparazzi a field day. XD

And ooooh~ Anything by Elizabeth Culmer is a go♥ She does gen so well that I can't help but worship her for it - I actually have her The Way of the apartment Manager open on my tab now. ♥ WIB(CCSBF) is on my to-read list. I love remixes~ /BRB SAVING

Okay, now that I've actually READ this post (I suck, don't I? D: It's just, your post is earlier on my flist from the sasunaru comm post, and I was like, RECS! I HAZ THEM!), I want to tell you why I like SasuNaruSasu or NaruSasuNaru -- whatever you want to call them. Yes, they're silly boys, and the more Kishi writes, the more difficult I find it to reconcile the way I see them with the way canon is going, but there is a reason why I started shipping them in the first place.

Basically, here's why: I like the idea of there being one person for you. The one who used to drive you insane when you were a kid, but who was also your best friend, and someone you wanted to impress, to measure up against. This dynamic was beautifully done for both of them in the earlier manga/anime.

And then something terrible happened, and one of them had to leave (even though, okay, he chose to leave, scaredy cat that he is -- but he just couldn't cope with all the stuff that was going on inside his own head and all around him -- come on, he's 12; how ( ... )

now i want to agree with sirona's comment.

and also to add, the reason Naruto fandom grabbed me, and kept me, and the reason nothing else, no other pairings, no other fandom has caught my attention since, is the sheer intensity of Naruto and Sasuke's relationship. They're both incredible compelling characters (even when they've lost it, we still need to know what happens to them) but the strength of their bond just blows me away. Which is why I spend hours and hours writing about their bond, specifically, their bond when walking through forests but that's by the by.

and why am I commenting all of the comments on your lj entry like a stalker? I have a lot of time on my hands and no one is on skype...

WELL, THIS WORKS OUT PERFECTLY, SINCE I WANT TO SPEND HOURS AND HOURS READING ABOUT THEIR BOND, ESPECIALLY WHEN WALKING THROUGH FORESTS. <3

Erm. That's what I was trying to say, is that their bond is so strong that it just might carry them through the screwed-up-edness and others' machinations, and even their own selves. What I hope for in the ending of the manga is that they'll still have that, no matter what happens to them in the meantime. I hope their bond will be the thing to save them.

Um. I'll shut up now. God, I'm waffle central today, for some reason! D:

and i want to agree with you. <3 Like, on everything.

The <>Naruto fandom is - I just don't know. It's been keeping me hooked. I don't even follow the manga anymore unless there's a hype on chuunin, but I just can't bring myself to let it go completely - or let my love for the characters die. And the reason no other fandom - not even NANA, and that's saying something - has been able to snatch me away from Naruto can be, to a grea extent, attributed to Naruto and Sasuke's relationship in canon.

You know, their bonds when they walk through forests is sexy. oh tree-sex *__* B-but. why do you not write them walking through snow. you'd be so awesome at describing the sexual tension atmosphere. they could maybe, you know, get cold, take off clothes for plot porn purposes to avoid hypotermia *points to icon* and reluctantly huggle a bit closer than necessary, then inch closer again, and closer, and closer and closer...

I have no fics to rec you, since I haven't been all that much in fandom as of late, either.

But yeah, I agree with you that people can overreact, amazingly so, to pairings. Personally, I don't really see the point in trying to dig up "evidence" for or against a certain ship; that mindset assumes that people are only "allowed" to write canon pairings, which we all know isn't true. I mean, not that there's anything wrong at all with sticking to canon, and generally that is what I myself do when I write, but isn't part of the point of fanfiction also to explore alternate possibilities? Anyway, ship wars get on my nerves because I can't help but think that people always end up getting increasingly aggressive over them.

Shy girl worshiping/pining after the outgoing, overconfident male seems to be a recurring theme in animanga - often used as nothing more than a way to glorify aforementioned outgoing, overconfident male. But that’s a story for another day.Ugh, yes. Mangaka need to realize that their perceptions/ideals of what ( ... )

Oh god, I agree so hard with everything you said - I've never thought about it, but yes, digging up "evidence" from canon does seem to imply that people are only "allowed" to write canon ships. I know, I know! Some of the best writers I have had the pleasure to read kick canon to the moon and back and still come out with such fan-fucking-tastic results.

Ship wars are like this... itch people need to scratch. It's just so easy to do it, you never think twice about it, and before you know it, you end up relieving yourself of that itch, that frustration, and then sit back to enjoy life once more, having accomplished nothing - except maybe, irritate the hell out of someone else by being a douche. :/

Although I'm sure that the reason for this trope also relates to social issues in Japan as a whole, and not only the mangakas' perceptions. - Why do I agree so much with this? If there's one part of Japan that I hate, it's that it tends to be as equally sexist as my own country - even though in widely different ways. :/ I fail to see why ( ... )

My icon likes your icon very much also. The sexual tension between them is running high.

It doesn't help for me at all that people seem to spend as much time looking for evidence to discredit others' ships than anything else. I mean, that's immature and I don't even know how else to describe it. Like, personally I'm not a big NaruSaku fan. I'm not. It just doesn't appeal to me. But that doesn't mean that it's somehow unjustified as a ship.

If there's one part of Japan that I hate, it's that it tends to be as equally sexist as my own country - even though in widely different ways. :/

Yeah, honestly, I think that you can find sexism in works from pretty much every culture out there, even if it does manifest differently. There are a lot of things in manga that I think are sexist, but there are also a lot of things I see on domestic tv shows that I feel the same way about.

I fail to see why mangakas/society in general need to "perceive" teenage boys/girls in different ways.Don't even get me started. ...Actually, do. I feel ( ... )
