Give me a Team 7 blueberry pie. And recs, among other things.

Feb 01, 2011 08:53

I haven’t been on LJ for a month due to personal reasons, but during that time, I’ve been reading. Books, physics guides, doujin, medical texts, wiki pages on Japanese cultures, and fanfiction.

Especially fanfiction.

Fandom, why so complicated? D: )

fanfiction, fanfiction recs, fandom: naruto, fandom, fic search, help!, absence, character: sasuke, fic, announcement, flist, character: naruto, discussion, character: sakura, fanfiction: au

Oh, thank you. I think I nearly sprained a wrist when I tried to open all these recs at the same time. Eventually, I had to close down a few tabs because they were all loading so slowly. But um, yes, they're all saved now♥

I've heard of Becoming Gay and Qwiky Lube but never really had the chance to just sit down and read them. I hear they're a riot. XD

I think I read I Fell in Love with a Boy a... long time back. And I remember being terribly amused by it. (I may just be confusing it with another fic though - one that has Neji putting his photoshop skills to good use and blackmailing Naruto into wearing a schoolgirl uniform. XD)

At the End of All Things and Twentythirs were wondeful♥ I never worked up guts to read Floodgates because it was so long - but I should really give it a chance, considering who it is written by. :)

But ThreeAlls? Argghhh. This fic. I love it. I even have it in PDF format - the ending broke my heart and the detail, the atmosphere, the ( ... )

I don't know so much about the international sasusaku fandom (I just lurk sometimes in Narutoforums because of fanarts and recs), but the German is like that as well *sigh*. Everything's just "kawaii~".
I hate it when people like/hate a pairing just because it's clichee.
I mean everyone grew up kind of realistic (though not everything was positive).
I also can't understand how people can neglect their OTP so easily.

And because everyone give some recs:
I really like the stories of angel-puppeteer (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/600925/) on FF.net
Or Frozen by Salieri (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1546709/1/Frozen)
There are a lot more ffs I like but I don't have enough time at the moment.

btw I loved reading your entry :D
(and sorry for my bad English.)

I have no idea about the German side of the fandom, to be honest, so this comes as a surprise. ^__^!

But, to be frank, I'm a bit turned off by angel-puppeteer's stories. The characterizations just don't ring true - it lacks that depth I always look for and the occasional grammar mistakes are a bit jarring. I admit I do like her settings; she's very good at describing the atmosphere, but... gratuitous smut really isn't my thing. :/

I had read Frozen years ago and I loved it - it's only one of the very few married-life fics I make exceptions for, because the author really didn't pull any punches - it's not always going to be butterflies and rainbows. :D

Thank you for your reminding - I'll go save Frozen now, for I'm feeling like I might need that calming prose to calm me down right now. DX

(your english is perfect! :D)

Maybe it's everywhere like this (though it would be very sad. SasuSaku is such a great pairing >: *sigh ( ... )

Found this entry through the SasuSaku comm. I don't know what you've read. Hopefully my list will contain stories you haven't read before ( ... )

I'm a bit @___@ from keeping my eyes open all night, studying for a horrid Bio test next week, so you'll have to forgive my brain for any random gibberish.

Firstly, THANK YOUUUU~ That's possibly one of the longest SS rec list I've seen in a while. And I'm a bit surprised I do not recognise a good majority of the fics here - or, if I do, I'm only familiar with the title, not the actual work. OTL

I do however recognise Venom and Something I Can Do - I absolutely adored the latter, mainly for its mature characterization. Which is exactly why I found myself being "meh" at Venom. I found it while I was playing around with the M filters for SasuSaku at FFN, and while the beginning showed promise, the ending was thoroughly disappointing. Sakura being shy around Sasuke, as she is now, isn't something I find plausible - I get the piece was supposed to be... lighthearted, more or less, but even without recent canon events, I would've found the SasuSaku interaction a bit OOC ( ... )

The list was actually longer believe it or not. LJ character limits forced me to remove a great many of them. You can find these and much more in my SasuSaku C2 community ( ... )

Being pretty useless on this front, I have no recs :( (Have you read this http://m.fanfiction.net/s/3475505/1/ though? You probably have, but if not, I really found it stunning) but omg, THANK YOU FOR YOUR RANT about how certain things "can't be done." There is such a difference between an archetype and a cliche and most anti-pairing types don't seem to understand that.

That said, I'll admit that I never really actively seek out fic about Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura because my tastes lean to more atmospheric prose and it's hard to find in that part of fandom unless you somehow stumble across someone like fahye or octavius_x. But the STORIES there are anything but cliche--the Narutoverse is all about patterns and the Team Seven story is about breaking those patterns; it's about having a chance to make the first Hokage's choice to abandon Madara and making that choice differently. It's about what's earned being more important than what's inherited. It's about taking a ( ... )

(I... had not read that before you mentioned it. But I did just now and i found it breathtaking and beautiful and maybe it's just all the studying and stress I've been smothered with this month, but by the end i was trying so hard not to cry. still sort of am, because prose like that does that to me sometimes, so forgive me if i'm a bit incoherent - and, um, you always somehow seem to find these unacknowledged gems, which i can only thank you for.)

I'm sorry, I did not mean to rant at all. D: It just all sort of came rushing out when I realized this would be the last time I'll be in fandom for a while. I suppose this was my way of leaving my thoughts behind, safe and sound, in order to concentrate on other things. ;__;

I can understand why you never go fic hunting for Team Seven, considering your preferences - it's, admittedly, hard to find fic that would suit you. Which is totally not a bad thing, trust me♥ I can't think of many that you'd maybe like - and that doesn't happen very often at all, I always have something to rec to ( ... )

So, um, yes - there are a lot of supporters for Team 7 OT3 shoving their unsolicited "reasons you should like it" down your throat, so I can understand why you'd choose to... stay away. And ship ItaShi, for that matter. I love how everyone seems to get along with everyone in the bitter_nakano com - it's so rare. D':

A-And what are you saying? You should totally sit down and write Team Seven fic. D: That'd be, like, completely awesome. :D And nooooo, your interpretations cannot be weird. And even if they're weird, they'd be the good kind of weird that I'm sure a lot of people would like<33

(do send me a PM if you ever get around to writing it sometime. I'd love to see that from you. ♥)

Unfortunately, I do not know of any historical fic that may be to your liking. D: But I'll try anyway: there's ThreeAlls by phoenixdown7, set during World War II in China. Then there's fearlessfirefly's Open are the Doors to the Deathless, which I linked to in my entry. And I do not know if the following SasuSaku story will suit your tastes, but... Crimson Reign is ( ... )

http://starapple.livejournal.com/11435.html

you might find some old fic in there to your liking, plus some links to older rec sites.

Just coming back from a long hiatus and finding the fandom in a worse state than when I left is difficult to understand. I'll have to catch up on the better links posted above.

Ah, thank you♥ That's quite an extensive rec list - I've saved all the SN fics there, and will be mem'ing the entry just in case I feel like venturing out into other pairings sometime~

It seems the state of fandom keeps getting worse day by day. Which, really, is a sad thing because some of the people I've come to know are great, and they shouldn't have be so... jaded about fandom at all. It's supposed to be fun! :'(
