Weekend in Paradise

Saturday-- How I hate walking dogs on Saturday. I think I've mentioned before that even though I ride my bike for work all week, I do it with less enjoyment than stress. Riding on city streets twists my stomach all up, even though I do it all the time. So the main appeal of my weekends is that I don't have to dodge semis on Ashland or cabs on ( Read more... )

The lesson here is this: it doesn't matter how many skull & crossbones stickers you have on your brand-new Chrome messenger bag, or how much colored electrical tape you put on your frame-- I will smoke you.

YES. It's amazing how much faster/stronger I am than these nerds simply because I use my bike as transport rather than a fashion accessory. We are like, the luddites of "bike culture".

Remember when I lived with those two teenagers? The one girl would roll her pantleg, just the one, all the time. Even when she wasn't biking. I'd watch her roll it, and then walk down to sit in Filter.
Yes, I don't wear the shiny pants and the windtunnel helmet and all that other expensive Lance-Armstrong-drag, but I don't wear the 40 lb chain around my neck either. *sigh* Just another subculture I'm excluded from. What a heartbreaker. Guess we'll just have to live with the shame of choosing functionality over fashion.

What did you think of SNL? The Barak Obama appearance was cool at first but then he came off as kind of stiff - I thought. Brian Williams was GREAT as that firefighter, he really had the voice nailed. The skit itself wasn't all that though, kind of dragged after the beginning.

Ride on.

I'm glad Obama wasn't slick-- I'm not a huge advocate of actors in governement. It was cute that he showed up, though. This will not be his year, maybe next time.
And that fireman skit was pretty much the only chance Williams had to play somebody other than "Brian Williams", you know? I would have been excited to see him really try and stretch out, although I'm sure the writers also really were excited to do a bunch of riffs of him as the uber-straight man.
