I'm afraid I don't use nautilus so I can't answer the actual question - I usually start with several terminals and work from these. When I do need a file manager I use Dolphin, which is part of KDE4 - you can set it up to be pretty much like explorer (plus, having just looked, it has a "terminal here" option).
If you launch nautilus with --no-desktop and --browser it gives you a folder structure in the left if that's useful to you.
EDIT, spotted you named your distro: Try sudo aptitude install nautilus-open-terminal.
Ta. I'm wondering how easy it would be to install KDE on my eee. I don't really want to have to reinstall from scratch though...I'm not even sure I've got space for it.

There are - it's the "ease of use == hide the details" argument I'm afraid. There is a kubuntu variant - I think you can guess what the difference is.
You can have as many window managers and desktop environments as you like at once, space permitting. It is quite possible that despite the fact I always use FLuxbox I also have KDE, chunks of Gnome, XFCE, Compiz-Fusion and possibly FVWM and various flavours of Enlightenment on this machine.
