Birthday Girl vs. Neurotic New Mommy

Michael has asked my friend Kathy to come baby sit for a couple of hours so he can take me to the movies for my birthday this evening. I'm not sure I WANT the gift, in spite of needing a break. The ex and I didn't go anywhere for somewhere between six and nine months, in our daughters' cases. Your mileage may vary. I know people who will trust a sitter with infants as young as Young Michael, and I can't say I disapprove, but personally Crystal and I were okay with waiting at least six months or so. Of course, even after that, we generally tended to take the children with us and did the kinds of things in which they could be included. We actually didn't see the inside of a theater between the time when Jackie was born and the time she could go see her first movie. Heh. Thank goodness for things like Blockbuster. We did have the escape of taking them to the drive-in though. Usually, they'd fall asleep before the movie started, so even if it wasn't "age appropriate" we could catch the movie there without worrying about having them along ( ... )
