My high school reunion is coming up soon, 11th year because they missed the 10 year. I’m having mixed feelings about it. I don’t keep up with people very well so I haven’t been in contact with people from high school much at all, and I do feel guilty about that. I don’t really remember much about high school, I know that sounds odd but I don’t keep ( Read more... )

Hah, I'm having the same thoughts. I was looking at my clothes and thinking "Christ I have nothing to wear to this stupid thing," meaning - exactly, cute little sundress and strappy sandals, blah blah. So we'll see about THAT ( ... )

I agree, go as yourself! Your friends love you just the way you are. *hugs*

Miss you! Looking forward to seeing you. :-)

(Holy crap, Mike P. really said that? Now I want to punch him....)

Given how much you have changed since HS, is it possible that some of your friends from HS would also have gone through some really big changes? Possibly in the same direction as you?

In terms of whether to go or not, ask yourself if you liked those people enough to spend X amount of time & money finding out what ever happened with them. It might be worth it for some closure, and then you can go back to your normal happy life.

I don't think you should feel guilty about not going if you decide that you don't want to. I also think that if you do go, you should go in whatever clothes make you the happiest.

FWIW, I went to my 5 year HS reunion, and had a miserable time, and swore I'd never go back. YMMV.

If you go, go as yourself. But if you're just going out of feelings of guilt, skip it!

I think the last one of mine that I "went to", what I actually did was contact the couple of people I was in touch with who were in town, and we hung out for an evening. I skipped the official event. And the last time a big HS reunion happened, I didn't even do that. I'm not connected in any way to these people any more (except for the one that I want to be, who happens to be a burner).

Sounds like you were me in high school ... erm and to some extent college as well. My 11 yr college reunion is this year, I'm probably going and they are all going to continue thinking that I am a slut and a freak. Easier for me to deal with because there is still no connection to my family as they live in another country, but I hear your dilemma. And btw ...you my dear are not trash.
