Ink Returns [Walter, Margot, and Dr. Keller]

Nov 24, 2009 20:25

Walter had followed Margot. He didn't know where they were headed but he hoped it was to the clinic so when they arrived there and he - through his heated delusions- recognized the surroundings he was thankful. Without waiting for Margot to act responsibly as Walter predicted she would, and without waiting for a doctor to check him in or assign him ( Read more... )

Walter was worse off than Margot had initially thought. It didn't take a doctor to see that, but it was going to take one to help him.

She left him on the floor - he was too heavy for her to move - and sought out the doctor on duty, or the woman she presumed was the doctor. She looked professional enough, if a bit young, in Margot's opinion. "Excuse me," she said. "This man needs some help." It went without saying, but Margot thought it ought to be pointed out that Walter was lying on the ground semi-conscious at that point.

Jennifer immediately went to the man lying on the floor, kneeling beside him and quickly checking his pulse and vitals. "What happened to him?" she asked the woman, glancing up for a moment before looking at the patient again.

"He spent a little too much time in the sun," Margot understated dispassionately. But a frown had nested itself between her brows, deepening as she looked at Walter and then back at the doctor.

"Can you help him?"

"Yeah, I think so," Jennifer replied. "But I'd rather not do it down here on the floor. Sir?" She gently shook him. "Sir, can you hear me? I'm Dr. Keller, and I'm going to take care of you, but let's get you up into a bed. Can you help me out here?" If he wasn't coherent enough to move, they could manage it, but knowing whether he could do it himself or not would give her a clearer assessment of his state.

Walter let out a gruff laugh as Eddie Blake was pushed out of the room my the woman. She was the doctor so here, in the clinc, she had power. Walter waved patronizingly to the grinning Blake who flicked cigar ashes to the floor as he left. His words, however stayed and replayed in Walter's head.

Yeah, can't you do something you ugly bastard?

Walter returned to his bed and punched it as he sat down. It was true. He had proved quite useless on this island since he lost his mask. He needed Rorschach. He needed his face.

"So, this is what you look like, huh?" The voice came from next to Walter, on his bed, and he knew who it was without looking.

"Hi Daniel," Walter told him, without looking up at his old partner. "Apparently it's a reunion. Blake just left."

Well. At least the first hallucination was gone...only Walter seemed to be talking to a second.

"Is this normal?" Margot was still looking at the doctor. "...Common? With dehydration?" She didn't add Or is there something else wrong with him?

"Severe dehydration, yes," Jennifer confirmed, though without knowing the patient's history she couldn't rule out the possibility of a pre-existing mental condition that could be causing these hallucinations. "I'm going to get him started on an IV to get him rehydrated. It shouldn't take too long." She gathered up the necessary supplies and scrubbed up.

"God..." Margot murmured softly. What had she gotten herself into here? She should have left him on the beach. Someone else would have taken him to the clinic...or tried to, anyway. She doubted Walter would have cooperated.

"Should I leave?" She wasn't sure she wanted to see his reaction to having a needle stuck in him.
