Grandpa is deteriorating slowly and I’m not sure how much longer he’ll be around. My biggest fear is that he’ll be hooked up to a machine keeping him alive. I hope he’s ready to go, if he does, but I’d be happy to have him miraculously bounce back to his old codgery ways. His stomach doctor released him, but he’s still having issues and his heart ( Read more... )

Tax credits do that; there are some that will only reduce your tax load, and some that give you money back, even if it means you get more back than you make. The latter tend to be aimed at lower income levels primarily, which means almost everyone can qualify for them.

This. It's probably more back because you own a house - all that interest you paid.

The Black Gods of the IRS will take your bounty away if their segmented antennae overhear your complaints of too much money. Beware!

Sorry to hear that your grandfather continues to deteriorate. You never know, though. Weird shit happens all the time, and the human body is an incredibly resilient thing. So, you know, good thoughts and all that.

I NEVER GET ENOUGH MONEY BACK...YOU HEAR THAT BLACK BUGGY IRS OVERLORDS!

I hope that helps.

Yeah, he's a cool grandpa, and you just hope what happens is for the best. Thanks, by the way.

Nothing happened to it, it was just never right.

The door was hung incorrectly and scrapes across the carpet, and when it is closed, there are gaps where air and buggies can sneak in. Also, because, I think, the entire frame of the door is off, our storm door (which was on its last legs to begin with) broke and fell apart/off.

So, yeah, nothing really happened to it, it all just kind of sucked to begin with (plus I think my front door is ugly :P). The cool part is, I can write all this stuff off on my taxes next year because it will be making my home more energy efficient, woohoo....unlike the washer and dryer we purchased last year (apparently those appliances don't count).

I am sorry to hear about your grandfather. Mine passed away right before Thanksgiving after months of hospital, rehab for stroke, back home, back to hospital, different rehab etc and I didn't get the chance to see him. I really had wanted to visit him and so we went up the night of the terrible floods and storms and almost didn't go. I saw him for a few hours in the morning the day he died. We had a good conversation, and I thought he was doing better. He had a massive heart attack that night. I have not cried for him as we had a wonderful day and I will cherish that memory for the rest of my life.

I hope you can find time to go, it is well worth it.
