So neat to hear about your trip and your impressions, especially of Richard III. I also got a chance to see it, right at the beginning of its run. It's really interesting to hear what you say, because I honestly have felt in reading other people's reviews that we all seemed to be seeing different things in the same scenes. I assumed that was all of us audience members bringing our own interpretive lenses, but from what you've said it seems like maybe we really did all get different performances! Fascinating.
I didn't love it as much as you did, but I did like it very much, and was beyond thrilled that I happened to be in London at the right time. That's the only time I've been there in the last 20 years. Very lucky! I hope your run of visits will continue!
I actually don't know if I loved this production of RIII so much as I was blown away by Martin Freeman's bottomless well of creativity, bravery, and talent. Seriously, I thought I knew what I'd be getting the second time around, and it was something entirely new and wonderful.
I'm so glad you got to see it too! What was an early performance like? Did you get to take your best friend with you? And how's that baby of yours?
I wish I had gotten to take my best friend with me! But no, it was a work trip and I dashed out to see R3 on my own time. I wrote up my impressions in a little post here. It was the second week the play was running, so quite early days.
The baby is awesome, thank you! He's a toddler now, running around with aplomb and fascinated by bubbles, Peppa the Pig and Gilbert & Sullivan. We're very happy :) Lovely to hear about your adventures!
Your review was fantastic - I left a response on your journal. Even beyond the changes I saw within my mad week, it sounds like some larger changes happened between July and September.
I'm glad to hear that the cherub is well and happy! What's not to be fascinated by when it comes to bubbles?
I haven't had many adventures recently, so I think I just had to go for broke with this one! I'm so pleased you liked the pics! How are you doing, honey?
Ooh! Care to offer a little preview? Have a fantastic time!
(Also, I haven't been checking lj for the past several months, between work and actually having the energy and interest to do a lot of writing, and I'm so sorry I wasn't around when you had your scare. I'm feeling very lucky that you're well. You are one of the best people I know.)
I had the loveliest time! And the timing of the trip meant that I could only do an early round at this year's US Open, and when I went (with my mom, who got tickets through her company, which meant that they were courtside seats) I saw Federer beat Granollers and Bencic beat Jankovic. In a way, I was a little glad I wasn't missing Rafa. (By the way, did you ever see this?)
(I had only seen Gina McKee in the first little bit of The Forsyte Saga and really disliked her character, so she wasn't a draw for me. What a pleasant surprise to find her such a skilled actor!)
