The importance is that I could never be with someone in any way if they would oppress me and oppress my fellow women. I think it parallels gay rights- Both are forms of oppression.
I see where you're coming from... I guess it depends on how strongly he opposes it. Like, if he's like the way Dan used to be, where he wasn't for gay rights but never voiced it, then it's like, "It's not okay in my opinion that you believe that, but at least I don't have to hear you bitch about it and make me punch you in the face."
I'm not certain everyone views the issue of abortion as oppression, though.
