I don't exactly agree with you because basically it is the individual listening to the music that would cause problems with the music that is made. I'm sure there are some Christian artists out there that are just looking to being glory to themselves but there are a lot that are completely into glorifying God through the talents that God himself gave them, and if the people listening to that music put those people on a pedestal and only listen to the music because they like the group, then it is their problem...not the artists. A lot of the contemporary Christian music worships God and a lot of people worship God through that music
and i would say true. however, that person is still going out to make money off of them glorifying God. no artist turns it down. and when you boil it down... it's pretty sick.
I think we were all given God given talents that we use to succeed in society. God wants us to be blessed and succeed. These people happen to have the talent of music. People have to make a living and that is just how they choose to do it...I don't think it is sick unless you look at it from the wrong perspective.
This is quite a debatable topic and is most certainly not the first time I've ever seen it brought up. First of all, we don't know for sure if these artists are out there to hear our applause, or to lead us in worship. I wish I knew their motives because it would be easier to choose which artists I respect and which I would not. However since we don't know this answer, we should be comforted by the fact that it's not up to us to judge them. It comforts me! I'd go insane if I had to figure out which were truly giving and Christian in their music (or whatever other talent God blesses them with

Truthfully, I do equally see both sides. I have seen christian bands turn away from God because their joy in entertainment and popularity replaced God as their number one spot on their priority list. But I also see those who stay with their eyes focused on Him regardless of money, fixed rates, etc.
I'm not strongly opinionated in this issue simply because I see both points of view and I can see why both sides would be right. I tend to agree with what you think Paul would probably say about this. I guess my main purpose of generally refuting your view was just to make sure you saw the other side of it rather than trying to tell you I disagree.
And... silly. Nothing from your reply made me think you were a bum. *refrains from using the same curse word* ;) Besides, you seemed more to just explain yourself, and didn't say anything offensive.
I shall tell my sister you said hi. :) Hope you're doing well!
Interesting debate. I understand what you mean, about people making money off of God's glory, but that's been going on since the church began. If you read a religion history book, you'll find that in the dark ages, the church would charge a penny for instant salvation. You know, pay us, and you're saved! What a deal. Then there are always those churches who condemn you from them unless you give up 10 or 20% of your salary each month. It's like they're saying that you have to pay for them (and God) to accept you. I guess what I'm saying is that with widespread practices like religion, people will always use it in different ways. It's interpereted differently by everyone, and some people will use it for profit, some will use it better their lives, some will follow it faithfully, and so on. I think it's very interesting that you brought that point up, how some Christian music groups seem like they're trying to be worship leaders. I'm definitely not trying to get into a debate about this since I don't know a whole lot about it,

hmmm. i'd say we are suppose to give 10%. but it's suppose to be an outflow of the heart. for me it's not a matter of acceptance. i like to do it because Christ did so much more for me. it's just a matter of giving back to God what He gave to me. so yeah. i miss you too. and i'm glad we agree on this idea.
Well, I see what you were saying anyway. I'm going to keep my thoughts to myself. "Supposed to" give money is such an outrageous idea to me. I can't comprehend that. Requiring money (as some churches do, and I'm not saying yours does) is just ludicrous. Isn't a church supposed to accept someone no matter what they look like, act like, how much money they have, or how different they are? Again, I don't know much about this, I'm just observing.

no. i would argue that you know more than most christians. now, there is a difference between accepting, and commmending. for instance, there are many things that i don't aprove of with many people i am friends with. they know exactly where i stand, and that i believe it is wrong. but i still love them.
congrats stinny... you understand christianity better than most believers do.
I agree with you my friend about Christian music. While I've always enjoyed worshipping to various Christian artists, there's always been something bothersome to me about it, too. I think you put your finger right on what it is. The best Christian band experience I've ever had was when I went to a punk/rock concert in West Palm with Renee and Switchfoot was there. They were there playing their music to an audience of mixed (if any) faith, and being accepted by everyone. That's what I think Christian artists should do more of...play the mainstream. Because I agree with you, the more they play for just Christians, the less they're praciticing what they preach.
I miss you. I unfotunately don't have your email address. Email me at kataliyou02@hotmail.com so I can keep you updated on all my escapades now that I'm in France for the semester.
i understand and respect your ideas. my point is this--i find there to be no wrong in a christian making a living off of music. but i believe that the goal of every christian who lives out their talents is that they do if for those of the 'secular' world. if you act... join community theater, be a light in a dark world. theater is one of my dearest loves. i mean... i LOVE acting. but i have to say this to your comment: "Am I wrong for liking the attention that i get while performing?"---yes. i'm sorry. this sounds cruel, but yes. you are infact, not just wrong, but in sin. to do anything less than to point glory only to Christ is to fall short of what we are created to do. it is for Christ's glorification that He came and died... so we might glorify Him forever. it's not about us... ever. even His death was about Him... for His glory. look in Scripture, you will find it. do i say that i can claim excelence in this? absolutely not!! i fall short daily. it is only His grace that moves me closer to that day that all i do will point to
