My condolences to you and your family, Alexis. I didn't know your father too well, but what I did know of him showed that he was a sweet and genuinely kind man. May he rest in peace. <3
Alexis, While I don't know you, I feel like your father and I had a friendship that was strong and enduring. I first met Dave just over 10 years ago and we kept in touch on and off for the last decade. In my experience he was a kind, smart, funny and enlightened man who wanted to live life for the sake of living it.
I will most definitely miss him and my thoughts go out to you and the rest of your family who are left with a Dave-shaped hole in your life.
I'm so sorry to hear that Dave has passed. I met him here on LJ about 10 years ago and we've kept in touch in various ways ever since then. He was always so upbeat and off beat, always ready to laugh at himself and share a joke to spread a little cheer around. I find that I actually think of him quite often. For instance, when he first told me how sick he was getting and had been in the hospital, he said he was looking for a new cane. To this day, I can't see a cane without thinking of him... you'd be surprised how many places actually carry them.
He used to talk about you a lot. He said he thought you and I would hit it off if we ever met.
Gosh, I'm just kind of rambling here, aren't I? I'm going to go grab some tissue and do that sniffling through laughter thing.
Miss you, Dave. The world is less kind, less funny, and less endearing without you. <3<3
