[Action/Video] | June 4, in the Item Shop (Robert spams this post man)semper_cogitansJune 5 2011, 02:47:03 UTC
[There was a war, but life had to go on in some capacity.
As much as Robert didn't want to be outside, he had to be. Living with Ingrid for the past couple of days out of necessity - after all, Doctor McCoy had been drafted - had been uncomfortable for him in several ways, and he'd often find himself crying even when his journal pings were successfully returned by his friends. The thought of them being out there, risking their lives, scared him in every way possible.
... Still, he had to do basic things for Ingrid - she deserved his help, as much as he just wanted to shut down. And one of those things that she needed help with was looking for her intangibility device.
So, like clockwork, he sets out to the Item Shop like he had every day for the past several weeks. He expects to find nothing, again - his cynical, depressive mood is running full-force right now - but to his surprise there's a single case, marked "I. G.", just sitting there
( ... )
It... s-seems as though it was one w-worthy of his g-genius.
...
I-I am glad that the M-Malnosso finally d-decided to give it to you... [Even if she'll have to wait a while to use it. The fact it's there must be comforting...]
[Ingrid stops herself. She'd been about to muse aloud about whether the Malnosso have provisions in place to stop her from going through the barrier, but since she has no idea if this place is bugged, she'll hold her tongue.]
[Good question. Though Robert has never seen any evidence of surveillance first-hand, that doesn't discount the possibility, and the Battle Dome is Malnossian technology.
Robert gives Ingrid a curious look as she cuts herself off, but doesn't press.]
... You will be able to go outside, correct?
That should be... a very w-welcome change of pace...
[Robert tries to keep the gushing to a minimum, but he can't help having some sparkle when he says this. Despite the misery of... well, everything lately, the memory of being with Don is a comfort.]
He is brilliant - an engineering genius with a penchant for technological experimentation. He is self-educated and has a wide variety of knowledge on many different topics... definitely a scientist, though without formal training.
It... is a shame, really. On Terra, he would easily make the Institutes with his prowess... ... And I would not hesitate to think y-you would as well, Ingrid.
[Yeah, good going there, Ingrid. You just brought up Robert's other love interest. And this might be obvious too.]
Ah, Helios... he is from such a strange but interesting world. I informed you he was a magician before, correct? He is also a headmaster of his very own school - and despite being somewhat... scatterbrained at times, he has a keen intellect and a skill for researching and inventing that, had he been Terran-born, would likely see him serving one of the great corporations.
But he is so kind and open-minded... such an accepting person. Absolutely wonderful.

[She would know.]

... d-dangerously thin s-sometimes, I would expect. [Robert stares at the floor.]
B-but this w-war is... h-hardly genius, by any standard.

[Ingrid looks over at the case with her initials inscribed in it.]
That was his life's work.

Yes, it was... very kind of them, wasn't it.

I'll be able to meet this Don of yours in person, for one thing.
[Oh, yes, she is looking forward to that.]

You two seem like you would get along quite well.
[Whelp, Robert. You have no idea what you're getting yourself into.]

He sounds wonderful.

... He still can't tell, of course, so his eyes are still bright when he speaks.]
... He is.
...
We might even be able to collaborate, on something, sometime. [Clearly this idea is exciting to Robert. It will probably be less so for Ingrid.]
Oh, and you could meet my other friends as well... I am certain they would all be glad to make your acquaintance.

Tell me about your other friends. You mentioned Helios once.
[Way to get off the subject of Robert's love interest there, Ingrid.]
