Rant: Tale of the Sickly, Rejected Stage Whore

Jan 20, 2005 15:47

For some reason, I've decided to leave this entry public. Most people probably already think I'm crazy/a bitch/cocky, and if you don't, I'd like to take the time to convince you otherwise ( Read more... )

1) I fully understand. I got shafted much the same way my Senior year for the musical. It's always bothered me that high school level theater is based solely on perceived talent rather than making it a learning experience (something that I plan to fix if I'm ever in charge of a drama program).

2) You might be surprised about college. Though you're probably right as far as mainstage productions go, there are a LOT of student run plays (a lot that are sanctioned by the department.) While you may not be able to get a role in a large production, there are TONS of opportunities to keep acting ------ and they always want non-majors as much as majors. Just be sure to visit the student call/casting boards once in a while.

I'm sorry, hun, I've had this happen to me and it sucked :0(

Thanks for sympathizing. It's good to know that I'm not just overreacting about this.

Girl! You are are a good actress and I'm sure you will make an amazing Boss. Maybe it seems unfair that you wrote Ruth and don't get to play her but you wrote it you can help the person cast do it right plus i know your gonna hate this but you very rarely get to play parts you write its very taboo in the theater world. atleast so far as my experience at Colby has gone. Plus I had what one role in a play in high school, I sang in chorus but never was a shining star. Now I am a lead in a children's performance and doing two shows a day all month long, like a real company, and picked up a theather and dance minor. College there is space for everyone in theater and music. I am in a chorale that is going to Europe over spring break. I mean seriously the sky is the limit. Be proud for what you did you wrote Ruth. You would be suprised how powerful it will be to see someone else's spin. I mean maybe they would accent every word where you wanted it but maybe they will high light some new emotions hidden within. I know you want to ( ... )

Ahh Nicole, you're so optimistic! It's insane. Haha.

I find you really inspiring though. You make college sound like so much fun. And it's so awesome that you're a history major and a theater/dance minor, because I bet not a lot of other people do that. I hope I'll be able to do something like that when I get to college!

You should talk to Ms. Clapp... even though she is stubborn it might help.. idk.. good luck... drama fest is fun anyways no matter if your a huge part in the piece or not... it really is quite an experience (I went 3 years LOL and 2 of those years I wasn't even in the class). Let me know how it turns out.
