So. I'm going to Cornell University. I'm sending in my deposit tomorrow. I've been online for the last hour, posting on Cornell LJ communities, browsing through the website, talking to my host from last week. I'm trying to figure out where to live next year. I'm thinking about Risley, the performing and creative arts residential college. But I don' ( Read more... )

Don't worry about not being in an all-freshman dorm. In fact, I generally consider the idea of forcing 90% of the freshmen to live in all-freshman dorms to be a Very Bad Thing.

The whole North Campus move-the-freshman-up-there-to-be-miserable idea was pure stupidity on the part of the administration. It was supposedly to "promote community among freshman", but the way most of the North Campus dorms are designed makes them horribly suited to promoting community among anyone living there. The only exceptions I can think of on North Campus are Donlon, Risley, and the two new dorm buildings (Mews and Court Hall). All of the rest of the North Campus dorms are suite-style, which are very bad for people whose social lives on campus are in early stages of development.

I was lucky, I started before the North Campus initiative went into full effect and was able to live on West Campus as a freshman. :)

Everyone I know that lived in Risley absolutely loved it.

Yeah, I think I'm going to apply to live in Risley. Living with a lot of upperclassmen might be kind of nice, since I'll probably always be able to ask someone questions I have about finding my classes, etc.

Colby doesn't have Fresh dorms at all, it rocks to live with all classes. Highly recommended!

Ever since I was a freshman in high school, I have never wanted to be around them more than I really have to. Granted, that's freshmen in high school, but I think there's a lot of merit in living with other ages. You will meet other freshmen, but it's also nice to mix it up, meet some older people, you know. My best friend in the whole world was a senior when I was a freshman, so you never know.
Whatever you do my friend, it will all be okay, and my mom went to Cornell, so I'm sure she would be happy for you :) Do you know what you want to study?
PS, I hope you have fun at your prom whenever it is with a cute dress.

Right now I'm undecided, but I'm somewhat interested in the following things- astrophysics/astronomy, theatre arts (acting, directing, playwriting), and psychology. And I'll probably find a million more things that I like once I get there. It's crazy!

Woot! You should be so excited. College is awesome, you'll find your niche, and whatever you're meant to do, you'll do.
