wow - irrefutable

Two and a half weeks into my gluten free eating, I was dismayed that I still had vertigo, blood sugar dips and headaches (although they weren't migraine caliber). So this morning, when I hadn't had any breakfast and I'd run around trying to get Jess off to camp and get my errands done, I pulled into Starbucks for a coffee and thought, ugh, nothing ( Read more... )

Hi, Jenny!

My sister swears by this diet (and she has a kid on the spectrum and has him on it and says the results have been AMAZING).

Is there a certain time limit to this stuff? Should you give it more time before going off the casein? I don't really know, but the other thing my sister said was an issue with them was being SURE that everything is COMPLETELY gluten free (0.3% is not good enough). She also said be sure to read ALL the labels because things you never imagine have gluten in them (SOY SAUCE! Can you believe it? Most soy sauces have wheat in them!).

Best wishes and lots of prayers.

Beth

Can the doctor not just test you for celiac disease?

yeah, probably. There's the issue of being uninsured first. And then I've done some casual investigation into celiac disease because I wondered if my son had it and my symptoms don't seem to fit the profile. But certainly, it's worth bringing up with doc since it's time for my annual anyway.

Hi - I don't know crap about this diet, because when my son was first diagnosed...that was enough to deal w/ (as you know from my blog and our numerous convos). To add a radical diet change to a child that was limiting his calorie intake to milk and mac n cheese was way too much for me. Still today, I am not feeling much differently. Are you going at this w/ your child or alone ( ... )

I'm the only one that is on it, not my son. His diet is so limited because of his sensory issues that he'd be unable to eat. However, he does crave more protein than the average bear.

I'm trying GF because I have severe migraines, vertigo, hypoglycemia and unexplained joint pain that comes and goes on a whim. I've done some casual research on Celiac and I don't think I fit the symptom profile for it.

I'm keenly aware of just how much gluten has infiltrated our diet - wow, it's insane.

Since I've been told to tough it out for a month, the jury is still out on whether or not I'm allergic to or intolerant of wheat or genetically incapable to process the proteins in wheat (celiac). I know that three weeks in, I'm still having headaches, vertigo and blood sugar drops. I also know that when I tried to eat some wheat on Monday, I was INSTANTLY sick. Not "hmm, i wonder if this might be the gluten?" no, it was immediate and undeniable.
