About once a year, when I sit around doing jack shit, I remember I have a livejournal. And being unemployed in a new place, boy is there a lot of jack shit being done!

The idea of Livejournal as a public place to post private musings is kinda weird, since in retrospect half your posts always look absolutely retarded!

I think I might teach someday. My dad recently got an award from VMI for basically just being a good professor, and part of receiving it was that former students, associates, faculty members, etc. all sent in letters supporting him. Passed every class this semester. What a nice change of pace!

I spent about 6 hours today helping a family friend and my dad raise two steel roof trusses over the friend's future smithy/forge/workshop. We had to rig up an A-frame (two logs, two horizontal braces, looks like an A) and the associated ropes, finagle the trusses up through the braces that they would rest on, then move them into their final ( Read more... )

Car trips are neat. Your mind gets to wander wherever the hell it wants, you can listen to music, and the wind can numb your scalp. Sometimes you think of important things and write them down, or sometimes you think about how crazy it would be to have a big velvet cape.

CAR TRIPS

Reading about black holes, chain reaction-inducing strangelets, the vast unfeeling reaches of space (How Lovecraftian!), food prices, conflict in Africa, and economic slump makes for a depressing afternoon! The standards I hold to (laborious)
Often cause me to feel quite inglorious
So now I stare at this screen
Writing verse that vents spleen
Because of procrastination notorious!

In an effort to catch up on makeup work, I'm not playing videogames for at least 3 games. That's probably the longest period of time I've voluntarily gone without in uhhh... maybe a decade? Maybe more?
In other news, I might go on a cross country trip this summer, money permitting.
