What a serendipitous discovery! :D And such lovely pictures, too! I keep thinking of the phrase "path less travelled" or however that goes, although that's not necessarily applicable here so much as the sense that you didn't expect to follow it but did. <3

two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
and sorry i could not travel both
and be one traveler, long i stood
and looked down one as far as i could
to where it bent in the undergrowth

"The Road Not Taken" is one of the few poems I still have memorized. And I think you understand exactly; it was a thrilling and unexpected moment of discovery, when I was so grateful to have taken a different road from the one I intended.

Thanks, Angelina. <3

Thank you! It seems that fall was just starting to settle in, although these pictures were taken on Halloween. I'm from further north than West Virginia, so I'm used to an earlier autumn.

You should read A Walk in the Woods, by bill bryson. His hike on the Trail was hilarious. :)

I actually saw that one (as well as, you know, a dozen others) when I was browsing Amazon for Appalachian Trail books! It didn't seem to have as good reviews as the ones I ordered (in addition to the Barefoot Sisters ones, I also ordered AWOL on the Appalachian Trail by David Miller), and I wanted to read specifically about what they call a thru-hike (starting at one end and going all the way to the other end), as opposed to section hikes like Bill Bryson did. I'll keep it in mind if I find that I want to read more Appalachian Trail stories after I finish these though!
