I think that only hearing aid wearers can truly understand the immense desire to rip off your own ears and stab yourself in the brain. The sensory overload that comes from the constant bombardment of useless background noise that our brains do not have the ability to filter out. It's not like glasses. With one hearing aid in the shop I feel like I have my right ear pressed against a wall of silence. This happens every year when the weather turns nice, first hot humid day, right side breaks down. For the past week I have been wearing a badge at work, black with neon pink print, no one has noticed it. Big bold letters "Hearing aids being serviced please speak up!" Nothing. Summer has finally arrived in earnest. It's hot, humid, and I spend a majority of my work day in a room with no air circulation, really. Seriously, not a single vent. Honestly, I'm really not sure. I went to the oral surgeon on Friday, and yes, they removed a part of my tongue for biopsy. It's been angry all weekend, and most of today. When they handed me the prescription for painkillers I didn't intend to fill it, let alone take any. I'm been popping 'em since Friday ( Read more... ) -
