[If she hadn't heard the noise from the journal, she would have certainly heard it from across the house. Everything else was quiet, it was just past midnight. Lili had only briefly gotten out of bed for a glass of water, but Matthew's yelling quickly summoned her back.]

A polar bear!

[ Magic or not, a polar bear was certainly too big to do much running around the room. It merely sat on the floor, lazily nuzzling its nose into Matthew's hand. ]
