Such is the world.

Holy fucking shit. The Russian-Georgian War has been going on for a few days now but still - the rate at which it's escalating is really frightening. I have to admit I was pretty disgusted with the initial coverage. The news media was shitting itself over Edwards' affair to the point where it barely gave a mention to the beginning of the conflict. I'd hate to think what the US news coverage has been like- it's been pretty sporadic over here, though it's coming in a steady stream finally. Though, I give them credit, they reported the story straight away on the Beeb.

It scares me too. I hate things like this. I hate opposing sides accusing each other and acting like bratty children. Solve your problems the adult way. You are not children.

(See, this is why we need women in charge- we don't throw our toys out of the pram *cough*)

They had a short (and I mean short) story about it and blurbs about it on the little ticker at the bottom on CNN but other than that I didn't see too much of anything that was indepth until more recently. However, that was just one news station but the whole Edwards (senator and former vp candidate who also ran again for the presidency again this year) affair was the main story that day.

NBC/MSNBC has sent some reporters/journalists over their and they had a short segment among other things on so I'd say they've been the best out of all the stations I've seen (but, again, I watch fairly sporadically).

Every time I think of a women in charge, I think of Merkel and then my mind drifts into this skeevy picture of Bush giving her a shoulder rub. The look on her face was priceless. She was so freaked out/disgusted.

Edwards ran again? I was not aware of that. He totally had my vote that one year, but then he blew it by 'surrendering'. Talk about disservice to your country, man.

Merkel? Is that who Bush is always talking about? Oh, no wait, that's Merkin; y'know.... "I'm proud to be a Merkin". OR IS THAT WHAT HE;S SAYING??? *is random in the morning*
I admit, I know very little about the many facets of American politics atm, as British ones are such a shambles right now, and bloody hell I can't wait for it to be 2010 so we can all do the right thing and actually choose the person we want running our country. Brown out!!

yeah, the coverage of the edwards affair has been ridiculous; this is why people don't trust the media and hate politics. they give something as, ultimately, inconsequential as that SO much coverage yet don't cover wars, elections, dictators, issues that the american people genuinely care about. cnn once was a pretty reliable source of news but not so much anymore.

and yes, i need to get to the gym, too.
idk about you, but i have to go really consistently otherwise i get lazy

Yeah, don't get me wrong. The fact that he cheated on his wife (especially since she was cancer stricken although in remission at the time) is bad. I don't take it to the extent that some of the people over ontd_political did (lol, some user thought it was close to being as bad as eating a baby or something ridiculous) however. I do understand the anger of him running for the presidency again with this still under wraps though - that could've cost the Democrats the election were he the nominee or VP-nominee again. I also remember how long it took our news stations to catch onto what was happening in Darfur; it was pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm the same. D:
I haven't been in like two weeks. I've been doing abs nearly every day and some walking/jogging but that's it. I plan on going to day so I don't start loosing the muscle I had built up.

oh, no doubt, what he did was wrong and reprehensible (and thankfully hasn't done damage to the dems yet...idk, if people bring him up, they need to bring up john mccain's marital indiscretions + the massive amount of republicans that have been in sex scandals), but its getting a little overblown, imo...its like, this didn't involve anything illegal, so i don't see why this takes precidence over darfur, russia-jordan, or even the current presidential election

i just don't like going by myself...i started going with a girlfriend of mine last semester, which was nice (we only did cardio), but since i've been home, the amount of activity in my life has decreased a lot...i want to start off this year really well, so here's hoping *crosses fingers*...what do you do, bb?

I try to do at least 30 minutes of cardio each time I'm in the gym whether I lift weights or not. I'm lucky that the YMCA here has a really nice circuit of weight machines. Enough that I can change it up. I do 3 sets of 10 on whatever machine I do, however. I don't usually workout on weekends, sometimes I go more and sometimes I go less but on average I try to do "serious" (more than a two or three machines) weight training 3 days out of the weekdays. I've always liked doing abs so I do various things for everyday (lately it's been 50 crunches and then 20-25 bicycle(?) crunches/sit ups). On Wednesdays, my gym has a yoga class and I might do some cardio but that's my main thing. It's almost like extra-cardio, depending on the instructor, but often it focus on the core and balance and stuff like that. Plus it's really relaxing! :P

One of my friends' brother is a personal trainer so I might ask him to write up something for me and if he does, I'll be sure to post it!

YAY. If only I could pull a Dr. Manhattan and be in two places at once; I'd love to see the Watchmen with you.

I miss you already; how are things in DC so far?
