This afternoon the air was so hot and muggy it felt as if the woods and valleys had a fever. Then the storms have come. Most of the rain has missed the little valley where we live, favoring the mountains as it so often does. But, the sky has lit up again and again like a flash bulb.

Decisions, a fork in the river
I've got a decision I don't know how to make, and my stress level is through the roof,which is exhausting and unhappy.

dry lands and lost love of place.
In the late 1800s a lot of people lived in Vermont. It wasn't a good place to have lots of people and farms so most of them left. The forests they had cut down regrew.

just rain
there is a line of thunderstorms to our north. It is slowly inching south. A few hours ago it was putting off a really impressive lightning show. Right now it is much closer but with less lightning, and it seems to be having so much trouble making it the last few miles. If it ever gets here it will cool things down a lot. it's hot!
So yeah, it's ridiculously hot. I saw some neat stuff today but also had a stomachache/headache I think due to heat and dehydration. The heat is brutal because it never lets up! In the West it almost always cools down at night, right now it is almost 1:30 AM and it is still 80 outside. No AC either, but there are two windows so it's sleepable ( Read more... ) -
on a broad scale: so much good, so much bad
So I spent much of the morning perusing different blogs and websites on stormwater management, urban creek restoration, urban hydrology, park space, guerilla gardening, and so many other things.
