The place that Sephiroth brings his alt to is, while neither his version of Gaia nor the Nexus-base of his assorted fellows and friends, at the very least in a relatively quiet part of the Nexus and far away from where Zack's would likely be able to overhear. And between the both of them they should be able to hear when someone is coming their way
